hit snag trying to migration to emby.

I currently use Plex and I am interested in migrating to Emby.

I have about 1500 movies that I have pulled off my disk collection and have a perfect folder structure for Plex. but, Emby uses [] instead of {} and uses imdbid instead of imdb as a tag for identification.   so in an attempt to run both at the same time during the switch, i created a script to create a file structure with an emby compliant naming convention.
to do this i have created synlinks to my media file changing the name of each file to Emby standards.
and what do you know,, it works, it picks up every movie and finds the correct metadata for each.
but, and here is the kicker,  when symlink pointers to posters and fanart, emby doesn't seem to be able to detect them and use the art that exists.

is this a known issue or just impossible?  is there another way to replicate naming for emby on 30TB of data without duplicating the data?

second question:  is there a way to create collections based on file structure. even if I have to script it...  i have all collections i a collections folder like so

image.png.f25cc8494b59ae241e2fd06d96bc1c96.png

and the art for the collection exists in the root of the collections folder.

so far I like what I see from emby but to make the full commitment I need to see this thing work fully.  any suggestions?

hi, the upcoming 4.9 server release will support all of these, so you could jump on the beta channel if it will help spare you from doing that.

I will try out the beta,  sounds good.    Does it also recognize both the {imdb-xxx} vs [imdbid-xxx] naming as well?

I believe it should handle both brackets and parenthesis, and both with and without the id suffix.

Please note that simply upgrading will not change the values for content that is already imported, so you might as well just make a fresh start with it.

Thanks for the reply and info!

I have so far just been playing with full imports anyway. then going through and seeing how it is handling things.   so fresh start is not a big deal.

only real time sync I see so far is rebuilding all my collections the way I want them.  I have DEV skills, perhaps I can write something using api calls to create what I want.  haven't got that far yet.

Let us know how things go. Thanks.

Let it run last night ingesting the movie library.   Still going through the results, but it appears to have found every single movie and correctly pulled metadata and the base poster and backdrop images.   The 4.9 release seems to be a major release, going to play around with this for a while and figure out all the bells and whistles.

Thanks again for the info.
