Trakt - Question About "Sync Library" Option for Trakt Collections

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Due to limitations in the number of items allowed in my Trakt collection using the free version, I have removed all items from my Trakt collection except for those that I have not yet watched. When I watch those items, I will remove them from the Trakt collection. Moving forward, any new items I add to my Emby library will be added to my Trakt collection. I will then remove them from the collection once watched and/or deleted from my server.

If I tick the "Sync Library" option in the plugin, new content added to my Emby server is automatically tagged as collected in Trakt. That is good. But I'm finding that Emby is also going back through the media on my server and re-tagging other, older items in my library as collected as well. That is bad, as I then have to go back and remove them from my collection in Trakt to stay under the 100item limit. Even after doing that, they eventually get re-tagged as collected on a future sync.

Can the Trakt plugin be configured so that it only marks new items added to the Emby library as collected in Trakt during a library sync between Emby and Trakt?

Hi, if you just never run the scheduled task, isn't that what would happen?

Last weekend, on three instances my Trakt collection was updated to include movies I had previously removed from the collection after Emby completed a scheduled library scan. The movies are still in my Emby library. But since I had already watched them I didn't want them to remain in the Trakt collection (I'm only using collections in Trakt at this point to keep track of unwatched content on my Emby server). Although I was able to reproduce this behavior last weekend, I can't reproduce it right now.

I will do some more testing to try and reproduce the issue. Maybe it was just a "one-off" and it won't occur again. Here is what occurred last weekend that led me to making this post.

  • I removed over a 100movies from my Trakt collection that had previously been watched.
  • The next scheduled Emby library scan took 7minutes (or thereabouts) to complete instead of the usual 20seconds. When I looked in the log file, I saw that during the scan Emby removed a large number of movies from the database and deleted the path to those movies. The movies themselves had not changed since the previous scan. And as far as I could tell, metadata/image content in the folders had not changed either. So I don't know what led to that purge. The movies were added back in later in the scan. I've attached a log covering this series of events.
  • During the scan, I saw the following in the Emby GUI:Screenshot2025-09-15180036.thumb.png.da1fe9610e7cf795d44294071821d2b7.png

The items with placeholder images were movies that had been purged from the database and were being readded. Most of them had been watched already, and were ones that I had manually removed from my Trakt collection.

  • During the sync between Emby and Trakt, all of the movies that Emby had removed from the database and readded were tagged as collected in Trakt. I had to go back and remove them from the Trakt collection again. But they were re-tagged as collected on the next scheduled Emby scan. ThisĀ happened three times. At that point I disabled the "Sync Library" option in Trakt.

These were my Trakt plug-in settings when this occurred:

I'll post back if I'm able to reproduce this behaviour.

OK when it comes to reporting library content, it sounds like you essentially want the server trakt plugin to pretend like something doesn't exist and don't report it to Trakt. The plugin does not haveĀ  a provision for that, so at the very least, you'll need to avoid running the scheduled task.
