Taglia74 5 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 I have a lot of trouble to connect to my server from outside home. Anytime it work, it work for some days and than without any evident causes it stop to work the comunication. So I need to come back to home, use the internal wifi with my mobile device, and after this operation it start to work again from outside home. This is crazy things! It is sufficient connect one time the mobile phone to internal wifi net to reabilitate the comunication with server from outside home. Also the emby connect doesn't work. I have to say that most of the time Emby are not usable because doesn't connect to server. .....if the developer may find out an easy way to manage connection from out of home it will be very needed from user like me that are not an IT wizar

Could you share with us what your Emby server is running? Is it Linux or Windows? Desktop or laptop or NAS?

Next time you can't connect to your server, can you check if the laptop can actually use the internet by going to a website or browsing YouTube or something like that? My server also has issues that when it's running for about a day, the network connection will become slower and slower with time until it's only a couple of bits per seconds. Usually just unplugging network cable (it's a wired server) works for me. Apparently this is something that is a known issue, especially with Intel network adapters running on Windows 10 machines that are on for longer times. A fix might be to disable all power saving settings for your network adapter. Here's a guide on how to disable those settings: https://support.windwardsoftware.com/support/solutions/articles/66000487622-disable-power-saving-and-power-options-in-windows. With any luck that should be enough. If it's not, let us know. 1

The power saving are jet disabled and the laptop work without battery (only by cabled power cord)..... .....one things that I have noticed (maybe it is not influencing) is that there was a bottom right icon that indicate windows update and the necessary to pc restart after upddate....but the pc was running without any other issue and it goes on web without problem also with this icon. Anyway now I've istalled the update and restarted pc and of conseguence Emby server......let see what happen 1

The power saving settings for Windows itself are different than the power settings for the network adapter. They're two systems that can have their own settings so I would recommend taking a look at the settings of the network adapter (driver) as well. I wouldn't imagine his IP is changing, otherwise he would have to reconfigure his mobile client every time he's away from home with the new IP address. Taglia74, have you tried any other service remotely other than Emby to see if it's only Emby or the whole PC? Maybe try enabling Remote Desktop on your PC and try to connect to that externally, (be sure to port forward 3389 on your router) for this to work. I assume you have the right port (8096 default) for Emby port forwarded as well in your router, best to do manual a Port Forward instead of letting uPNP handle it. If then you can connect to RDP but not Emby you know it's Emby related and not connection related, it it's both, then you have a connectivity problem. Edited October 11, 2025 by pgriffith

AmericanMike 17 Posted October 16, 2025 Posted October 16, 2025 Hey folks. I had this issue in the past when I had repurposed a laptop to run as a server while I upgraded by permanent server. I as well checked all those settings numerous times on the network card. I watched while I used the app on my phone and it "awakened" the laptop like it was a Wake on Lan setting. Drove me nuts and I switched from the LAN port to WiFi and I ran for 3 days with no issue before I got my upgrade back on line. Never did understand what was putting it to sleep but definitely was the laptop.

I notice that on 18 October my ip connection change as you suppose. This morning I wrote to my internet provider supplier to check if it is possible to do something about it. This explain why it happen. When I'm at home and I connect by home net I suppose that the Emby app automaticaly update the ip so that when I go out again it keep working till next provider ip changing happen. If my internet supplier answer me that it is not possible ti fix ip is it there a work aroud to this problem? thanks Edited October 20, 2025 by Taglia74
pgriffith 88 Posted October 20, 2025 Posted October 20, 2025 (edited) Yes, you can get yourself a free DNS. You can also generally get a fixed IP from your internet provider, but that is nearly always a paid service and is often sometime only available on business plans. I recommend duckdns.org, been using it for years myself. Depending on what router you own, you can setup duckdns in it so whenever your IP changes it notifies the duckdns servers so when you use the duckdns supplied address it knows what your IP is. If your router can't do it you can run a small app that runs on your PC/server and keeps your IP up to date that way. So you would set up an address like taglia74.duckdns.org. Then you would use this address instead of your IP to connect. There's many other free DNS services too, your choice. Edited October 20, 2025 by pgriffith
