pgell 4 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 I have an Emby server on a Synology DS918+ NAS with a capacity of 21.6 TB. To date, it manages 62,270 files, including movies, series, and music, which occupy 14.73 TB. The server is used by about 30 users. I have an opportunity to upgrade my hardware, and I have some doubts. In principle, I am quite happy with my current setup. However, I suffer from one issue that I want to see if I can solve with a better NAS. The problem is that, for about a year now, some of my libraries do not update automatically. When I add content to their folders, it doesn't become available on the server after a few minutes. It is essential to force a library scan. This does not happen with the other libraries. The main difference between them is that the ones that fail have a more complex folder structure and a much larger number of files (Series, Music...). I ended up assuming it's a lack of device resources. Now that I have the chance to change my NAS, I want to not only increase storage but also boost its power, and I've come across a couple of aspects I don't like about Synology. My current NAS has a Celeron processor and 8GB of RAM. The best I can aspire to with this brand is a Ryzen V1500B, and I'm not sure if that represents a significant leap in capability. But what I like the least is that Synology has established a compatibility policy for the drives that can be installed, determining that only their brand's drives are compatible. I currently have 4 Western Digital 8 TB drives, and I don't know if this Synology policy will mean I can't use them in the new one or if it will result in a loss of warranty or support from the brand. I'm finding NAS devices from other brands like Terramaster or Qnap that mount Intel i5 or even i7 processors in some of their products, which would mean an undoubted power increase. However, with these other brands, I have doubts about the compatibility and ease of maintenance for the Emby server. If anyone has experience with any of these issues, I would greatly appreciate your comments.

pgell 4 Posted September 18, 2025 Author Posted September 18, 2025 Hello. I uploaded a series named "Dos tumbas" to the server this morning. I made the folders and paced the files inside at 06:56. I refresh the emby home screen at 07:05, but the series didn't show up. It didn't appear at the series library list neither. I find it is available this afternoon and the first mention about the series in the log is at 13:20. I uploaded a movie named "Una Quinta Portuguesa" this afternoon. I put the file at the movies folder at 17:40. The film is available in emby at 17:42. Thanks for your attention. embyserver-3.txt
Luke 42077 Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Hi, is the realtime monitor enabled in the options of the library?
pgell 4 Posted September 21, 2025 Author Posted September 21, 2025 Yes, it is. Don't you think it could be a resources issue? The folder of that library has 4.06 TB in 4473 files and 636 sub-folders. I don't know how the realtime monitor option detect changes in the file system.
pgell 4 Posted September 21, 2025 Author Posted September 21, 2025 Yes. All the media of the emby server is in an ext4 file system over a 21.8 TB RAID5 unit, built with four 7.3 TB drives.
TMCsw 247 Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 You have likely passed your server's inode limit for RTM (to confirm, reboot the NAS and wait five minutes, then post the new embyserver.txt) This can be fixed, but I'm not a Synology Guy (search this forum for the fix).

Luke 42077 Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 Well the realtime monitor did pick up some changes: 2025-09-18 17:42:28.065 Info LibraryMonitor: peliculas pendiente (/volume1/medianas/peliculas pendiente) will be refreshed.
