How to "Remove from Continue Watching" on Emby TV?

Recommended Posts

I can "Remove from Continue Watching" in the Emby Android app, but long press when using Emby TV app (running on Chromecast dongle) doesn't offer any popup options, including that. Why? How can users do this when using the Emby TV app?

Hi, what version number of the TV app do you have?

Hi.  Something is different on these specific devices and I'm not sure what it is.  My TCL Google TV and Shield still operate normally with a long press but the new Google streamer does not.

I suggest using the standard Android app on the device instead (search store for "emb").

I need to use Chromecast through HDMI port. I refuse to use any smart TV built-in connectivity because of privacy and security concerns. I have my Google privacy settings locked down, but smart TV companies track user behavior, sell data, etc. without offering options to turn it off.

I am not using the new device, rather an older Chromecast HD.

Hi.  Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares?

Thanks.

That's what I am using. I am not "casting" from Android phone to the dongle, I am using the built in, updated app.

Hi, sorry for the confusion. We actually have two apps, so we're asking you to try the other one. The version number in the store will be 3.4.74.

The one I'm running (Emby for Android TV) says it's version 3.7 in the store but for some reason it says its version 2.1.23g in its own interface. The only other app I see is Emby for Android (beta). Is that what you want me to install? Can I run them in parallel?

Installed both, 3.4.74 (beta) does seem to work properly. Except for the INCREDIBLY annoying disabling of the back key on my remote to exit Emby and go back to top level of Chromecast. Could you PLEASE have back key work the same way as it does with Emby TV app, which I assume you're phasing out?

Hi, what makes you think it's disabled?

Ah, it takes three presses now - from anywhere on home screen first the focus jumps to top bar, then opens a new sidebar, and only then does it exit the app. This is different from other app version. Thx.

I do not know how it works on other devices but, on my Shield, a simple press of "Home" takes me out of the app with one keypress.
I also would like some way for the "back" button to take me straight out but there is a lot of added functionality that kind of requires the back button behave as it does. I have a universal remote that does macros and I have mapped on of the easy to reach buttons to three back presses but I find I almost never use it as the home button is both easier and faster.

The "continue watching" also annoys me sometimes because when I'm working on a tv show I got past the "3%, mark as unwatched" and now I have a bunch of stuff I've already seen or haven't seen yet to continue watching.

I usually just go to the item and click the "watched" button until it's what I want it to be. Changing the "watched" state also resets the continue watching value somehow.

I have to admit I didn't quite get that - why do you have "a bunch of stuff you've already seen or haven't seen yet to continue watching." in your CW row?

Sometimes I create downscaled versions of existing and check them out via Emby ór my users report having issues with a media file so I start some play back. Sometimes after seeking a bit through the file it gets adding to the continue watching list.

This can be reproduced very easily by opening a movie, seeking halfway, waiting a second or two for the client to send the timestamp to the backend and then going back to the homescreen. That item is now marked for "continue watching".

I'm trying (and failing) to figure out what is the isuue there: not sure how do you expect it not to show in CW row, halfway played item?

Because I only watched a total of maybe 3 seconds of the media item. Even if it's "halfway" it doesn't justify to "continue watching".
I'd understand if the "mark as unwatched from x-percent" would be based on total viewing time, not just passing that percentage in total playtime the item has.

Ii that case you should create a FR as AFAIK Emby doesn't track ttl playing time, just playback ticks/current position.

Yep I'm aware of that and it's besides the issue OP mentioned.

I only shared how I get unwanted "continue watching" in the first place and that the only way I know how to remove those is to change their "watched" check.
But don't do that from the homepage, because they'll disappear lol.

If playback is stopped between the Minimum and Maximum resume percentages for Playback, then it will be displayed in "Continue Watching".

This methodology has been in existance for many, many years, but can be set on a per library basis.

What you are doing to play the first few minutes and then having to marked it played/unplayed, is the only method to remove it from "Continue Watching" row.

I switch to a "dummy account" to test and play around, so I didn't care about play status, continued watching, etc.

In both the web app and android app, click on settings and just remove a "Home Screen Section" from "Continue Watching" to None.

Kind of besides my point though hehe. It's kind of weird that we're resorting to using dummies to do this though. Isn't this possible that indicates a larger issue possibly?

I would like a dedicated "remove from continue watching" on the detail page and maybe even a remove icon for the homescreen section, just so this is a little more in line of how other platforms also handle this.

uhhh.... see above?  You can remove continuing playing already....   Whats the problem here?

In Line with other platforms?  Then go with the other platforms that suits your needs?  Trying to make everything like everything else is mono-culturish.  I'm baffled by this attitude.  Nobody is forcing YOU to USE emby.  So strange.
