Anime playback

Hello,

Hope this finds you well. Since forever I have had an issue with anime playback on any of my Roku TVs. I understand this is probably codec related as a few do work but most fail to play.

The ones that fail mostly take an unusual long load time and play for a few seconds and then tries to load again.

I'm guessing that I will need a new GPU if it's codec related. What would you suggest as a replacement GPU that can also handle LLM loads?

Thank you.

Attached are the requested logs and I also enabled the Roku logs. To confirm I have no issue viewing anime videos via a computer nor cell phone, the issue is limited to Roku.

To created the requested logs I played one anime which worked and the other didnt at 944 CST.

For the failed video. After a long load time the video played for 0.5 sec, skipped, and then another 0.5 sec of video before failing out to a long load screen from which I quit the test.

Looking at the logs, and given that I am not an expert here, I dont see anything that jumps out at me as ERRORs but there are a few lines as follows.

AppendExtraLogData: Unable read graph output file:

Server: http/1.1 Response 500 to host3. Time: 4521ms.

Server: http/1.1 Response 200 to host3. Time: 5204ms

Working off what has been provided, can you suggest a solution? I am uncomfortable to provided extended logs for a number of reasons. I hope you understand

Not providing information reduces the devs options to guesswork, which isn't a lot of use to them or you.  You can send them the server logs by PM if you're unhappy linking them (even though they can be sanitised) to a post.

Fair enough... But I feel that I provided the requested information. Logs from 3 days ago shouldn't be relevant. I enabled the logging on roku as requested and provided relevant logs so... Anyways...

You sent a log from the app after reproducing the issue?  Can  you please provide the requested information from that?

Then add the following information to your report in the forum:

  • Exactly what you were doing and what happened.  Include the name of whatever you played if it is a playback problem
  • The time you sent the log (in Eastern Time please - UTC -5)
  • The name of the Emby user on the local server that was logged in at the time

The logs you posted in this thread in the ODT format do not have any playback attempts. It also looks like the server is still scanning things.

Have you run a full library scan of everything and let it finish?

Once you enable debug you have to exit the app and restart it. The app must start in a debug state fresh. Once you do this you recreate the problem then go back to the homescreen and navigate up to your username at top and click. Then the menu shown above will appear. At the bottom is the Send Logs option.

The Roku is poor at subtitle support. No graphical subtitle support is available. All graphical subtitles must be burned into the video stream. The Roku only supports text subtitles with no fonts/formatting/adjustments. At this time we only support what Roku does or we suggest you burn the ASS/SSA subtitles into the video using the option found in the Roku app settings. We do not have a custom subtitle parser in the app at this time.

Make sure to disable the debug option in the app once you have sent the logs. There are numerous messages saved into the Roku on-device-log when you enable this and if you navigate around quickly it may bog down the Roku and cause slowdowns for you. Only leave the debug option enabled while you are attempting to recreate the issue and send us logs. Thanks.
