stuarta 1 Posted September 15, 2025 Posted September 15, 2025 Hi all, Does 'continue watching' work under DLNA? I've been swapping between Emby and Jellyfin, but I've noticed that with Jellyfin, although continue watching works when using a web browser, it doesn't work via my TV and DLNA. If this works under Emby then I can see me switching back again. Many thanks
stuarta 1 Posted September 16, 2025 Author Posted September 16, 2025 Ok great thanks, I'll reinstall it and see how it goes
stuarta 1 Posted September 16, 2025 Author Posted September 16, 2025 Ok so just tried this tonight on my TV but noticed the following. I reenabled Emby to test this, but apart from being slow to load the folders, when I did click on a couple of files, they reported as MPEG2-TS and refused to play, despite playing through standard DLNA. I thought I was downloading everything as h264 and they should be ok, but what's going wrong? Many thanks
Luke 42077 Posted September 16, 2025 Posted September 16, 2025 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
stuarta 1 Posted September 17, 2025 Author Posted September 17, 2025 ah maybe it's because I don't have Premiere for hardware? Although the files play absolutely fine outside of Emby logs.zip
Luke 42077 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 What exactly happened? Are you able to update to Emby Server 4.8.11? Please attach the main emby server log as well. Thanks.
stuarta 1 Posted September 18, 2025 Author Posted September 18, 2025 Thanks for the reply. I've just checked and my Synology package is showing as 4.8.11.0-724081100. I thought I had included the main emby log in the zip but I've just uploaded it again here. When I go to play a mpeg2ts file it just comes back as unable to read file. Although if I try and play through the standard Synology DLNA it loads ok, it just doesn't work through the Emby DLNA interface embyserver-63893664000.txt
stuarta 1 Posted September 20, 2025 Author Posted September 20, 2025 Sorry what's the easiest way to check?
Luke 42077 Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 The bottom of the detail screen in the web app.
stuarta 1 Posted September 20, 2025 Author Posted September 20, 2025 Ok so shows as Video - 1080p HEVC Audio - AC3 5.1
Luke 42077 Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 OK can you please temporarily enable debug logging in the server logs section, then restart the server, repeat the test, and then attach the server log? thanks.
stuarta 1 Posted September 21, 2025 Author Posted September 21, 2025 Ok done and the same cannot read file error ffmpeg-transcode-52b81451-d4e5-4b51-84c7-f1b835ac3a09_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-d61a0cbe-a625-4e5b-94dd-d64b6e2a3d93_1.txt embyserver.txt
Luke 42077 Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 OK I've pushed an update to the Dlna plugin. Please see if that resolves it. Thanks.
stuarta 1 Posted September 21, 2025 Author Posted September 21, 2025 Ok thanks, do I need to download an update? I don't see anything available
Luke 42077 Posted September 21, 2025 Posted September 21, 2025 Your server should get it within a day. Or possibly quicker by restarting it.
stuarta 1 Posted September 22, 2025 Author Posted September 22, 2025 ok thanks, I restarted and although the downstairs Panasonic struggled, the upstairs Panasonic worked on those particular files, I'll test the other one later. I noticed that they now show as mkv and not mpeg2-ts and still have one mkv that won't play but that's using EAC audio instead of AAC so assuming that's the problem. Wifey also going to test watching her programs today and we'll see if they appear in the 'Continue Watching' or 'Next Up' lists which is what we were initially hoping. What was it that you changed in the plugin?
Luke 42077 Posted September 22, 2025 Posted September 22, 2025 I updated it to treat hevc as supported so that it would direct play rather than transcode.
stuarta 1 Posted September 23, 2025 Author Posted September 23, 2025 ok thanks. Not had the chance to test the DLNA continue watching yet but hopefully it will work ok 1
stuarta 1 Posted September 30, 2025 Author Posted September 30, 2025 Apologies for the delay. So it looks like the videos are working which is great, although the "continue watching" or "next up" isn't working through DLNA but maybe that's a limitation of DLNA? I was told it should work but was doubtful.

stuarta 1 Posted September 30, 2025 Author Posted September 30, 2025 My wife watched a full programme and the next episode didn't appear in either list.
Luke 42077 Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks !
stuarta 1 Posted October 1, 2025 Author Posted October 1, 2025 ok just applied the log files here. Wife was watching Bosch between 13.00-13.30ish and again at 1630ish but I can't see anything in the logs I can see a line item for Richard Hammond that I was watching via web browser in ffmpeg files but obviously you know what you are looking for emby logs.zip
