gebruiker 1 Posted September 14, 2025 Posted September 14, 2025 (edited) Hey y'all. I've been having this weird problem with my subtitles for a while now and I'm curious to see if I'm the only one. Steps to Reproduce: Play an episode or movie with .srt subtitles. Subtitles show up correctly. Finish the episode/movie, then start the next one (manually or via auto-play). Notice that subtitles are no longer displayed. Stop playback → video disappears, but audio continues playing. Stop casting from Emby. Restart Emby Server. Cast again to Chromecast and play the same episode → subtitles appear correctly. Repeat the above cycle → issue happens again. Expected Behavior: Subtitles should display correctly on every episode/movie, regardless of whether playback continues automatically or the next item is started manually. Actual Behavior: Subtitles disappear when moving to the next item. Stopping playback removes video but leaves audio playing. Only a server restart restores subtitle functionality. Environment: Server OS: Ubuntu 24.04.3 (running inside a LXD container) Emby Server: v4.8.11.0 Emby for Android: v3.4.74 Casting Devices: Chromecast Ultra 4K Subtitle Format: .srt embyserver.txt Edited September 14, 2025 by gebruiker

Solution nospotify 186 Posted September 14, 2025 Solution Posted September 14, 2025 I think you may be reporting multiple issues. The issue with Chromecast continuing to play audio even after video is stopped is one I have experienced and reported, too. The issue of non-persistent subtitle selection (off/on, which language) when moving to a next episode of a series has been reported. (Why a server reset would fix that is unclear.)
gebruiker 1 Posted September 14, 2025 Author Posted September 14, 2025 Ok thanks. I couldn't find anything about it. If the devs know about it then hopefully it'll get fixed soon.
Luke 42186 Posted September 20, 2025 Posted September 20, 2025 Hi, we are looking into these. Thanks.
gebruiker 1 Posted March 1 Author Posted March 1 (edited) I've switched from casting to my ancient chromecast 4k ultra to casting my brand new odido stb but still the same problem. Any update on this, @Luke Edited March 1 by gebruiker 1
Luke 42186 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 @gebruikerhave you updated to Emby Server 4.9.3? Has that helped?
gebruiker 1 Posted March 5 Author Posted March 5 Yes. I've switched to docker inside a Proxmox VM since the beginning of this year. It's auto updated with watchtower. Same problem. Stop casting, force closing the app and recasting solves the problem most of the times.

Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks!
gebruiker 1 Posted 2 hours ago Author Posted 2 hours ago Sorry @Luke I was away for business and haven't had a lot of time to watch anything. One of the people on my server reported this week that they played a tv show episode, stopped it a few minutes before the end, started the next episode and then the subs stopped showing. Stopping playback didn't stop the payback. the video kept playing. Disconnecting from the chomecast and force quiting the emby app and reconnecting fixed it again. It was around 00:23 (cet) I hope this helps. embyserver-63909475201.txt ffmpeg-remux-d9da75e8-74c5-4e88-b151-a986a194ee32_1.txt ffmpeg-remux-c684374c-0b6e-4a34-8221-2c272a07f9f9_1.txt
gebruiker 1 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago Happened again just now. I was watching a movie, stopped it (around 18:38), started playing a tv episode, it started but picture froze and audio kept playing. Did the stop casting and reconnecting to the chromecast thing and i could watch the tv show just fine. This time it was a Thomson 270 plus. So to recap: I've had this with native Emby install on Ubuntu 24.04, and with the docker version (also on Ubunto OS). With a Chromecast Ultra 4k, Ziggo stb, Odido stb, and a Thomson 270 plus. Some remote, some on local lan. embyserver(1).txt ffmpeg-remux-ded78e79-da08-4a98-a31c-ff230c5c2f95_1.txt ffmpeg-remux-5172af3e-64bd-4e04-a562-2ccb401b231b_1.txt
