mohoelx 12 Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 So with football season upon us, I have a question. Should I be able to FF up to "live" if I start watching a recording that is still in progress? I like to be able to let the game start recording, and after a while (30 to 60 minutes) start watching the recording from the beginning. This should allow me to FF through the commercials and half-time. This works with my Tablo recordings, but working on migrating to using HDHomeRun directly with Emby as the recording interface. But when I tried this with the football game this weekend, it did not work. The FF button brought up the OCD, and the timer increased, and the progress bar appeared to move forward, but when I stopped FF and went back to Play, it would just pick up right where it was when I started the FF. Am I just mistaken and this simply does not work with Emby and HDHomeRun recording? Or should this work, and I need to capture some logs?
Luke 42077 Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
mohoelx 12 Posted September 9, 2025 Author Posted September 9, 2025 Ok, here ya go. 1. Rotated log files. 2. Eyewitness News at 4:00 started recording. 3. Waited 5 minutes and went to my recordings where this episode was actively recording. 4. Selected it and hi "Play" and it started at the beginning. 5. Tried FF for 2 minutes (watched the progress bar and timer act as would be expected, while the program continued to play) but when I went back to Play, it continued from where it was. 6. Waited a couple minutes and repeated 5 with the same results. 7. Tried FF to past the "live" point in the recording and still got the same results. 8. Rotated the log and here it is. If this isn't supposed to work, I just need to know, but if it is supposed to work, I need to figure out how to fix it. It is truly a drag having to just watch without being able to FF the commercials and half time! Thanks. embyserver-63893030866.txt
mohoelx 12 Posted September 10, 2025 Author Posted September 10, 2025 (edited) Interesting wrinkle, both FF and Rewind DO work using the Windows app (Emby Windows 2.234.2.0). Also, I have two apps running on my Onn 4k Android TV device; - Emby Android TV version 2.1.23g works, - Emby for Android 3.4.74 does NOT work, and as I understand it, this is the current supported app, correct? This is the app that was used in the above log file. Edited September 10, 2025 by mohoelx
Solution Luke 42077 Posted September 11, 2025 Solution Posted September 11, 2025 hi, you can make it equivalent to emby android tv by going into playback settings and forcing a conversion on mpegts. please see if that helps.
mohoelx 12 Posted September 11, 2025 Author Posted September 11, 2025 Thanks. That works. It is interesting the differences between the two products that seemingly serve(d) the same purpose. Emby Android TV seems a lot more polished on the surface, but is unusable to view upcoming shows apart from just using the guide, while Emby Android is quite functional at searching the for "new episodes", "movies" and "sports". Just for my sanity, it is in fact that Emby Android is the currently supported product and Emby Android TV is being deprecated, correct?
Luke 42077 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Eventually, yes. What makes you think it is more polished?
mohoelx 12 Posted September 11, 2025 Author Posted September 11, 2025 I guess it's mostly just familiarity with the layout of one over the other. That and the "Exit Emby?" when exiting ... in Emby Android it is just keep hitting the back arrow until the left nav menu displays the one more and you are out. In Android TV, there is an OSD confirmation that pops up. I'm learning to love Emby Android after using Emby Android TV for quite a long time...so long ago I don't remember why I chose one over the other. Some of the 'feeling' is likely attributable to having spent time tweaking the Android TV app over the years. I still am very appreciative and enjoy using Emby. Thank you for your and your team's efforts! 1
