dowen01 1 Posted September 8, 2025 Posted September 8, 2025 So, I have a trigger. It's something that I struggle with seeing, hearing, and imagining. Yes, I know it sounds stupid, but I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. Our triggers might be Different but the concept is the same. I've been wondering, should I attempt to train myself to make a plugin that allows you to drop a configuration file into the movie folder, or I guess any folder where there's media based on the name and a file extension. That's probably the way to go. That allows you to configure custom skips of a film or TV show, either with an auto pause and warning, or to be honest with you, I would personally use a simple auto skip, so it just jumps over the bit that you can't watch. Is this a dumb idea? Has someone already done it and I've simply missed the memo? I would really like the thoughts of the community on this one. Core Idea Each media item can have a sidecar JSON file defining flagged time ranges. The plugin reads that file when playback starts. When the player approaches a flagged range, it either: auto-skips over it, or pauses and prompts the user to continue. Drop a movie.skip.json file next to the media file. Start playing the movie. Plugin watches timecodes. Skips/warns as configured.
TMCsw 247 Posted September 9, 2025 Posted September 9, 2025 Have a look at the ComSkipper plugin. You could create your own .edl files, not a JSON, but it is straightforward to use for your desired timestamps. Also, the source code is available if you need to customize it to suit your needs...
dowen01 1 Posted September 9, 2025 Author Posted September 9, 2025 Oh that is intriguing. Thanks for replying, I will investigate.
