You can try to enable "Customize Field Mapping" and then set Genre to "Group Title" set Series Name to "TVG-Name" leave everything else as is and of course choose "Episodes (retrieve Metadata)" I'm not sure whether that changes anything and whether it will be able to parse the series name properly (because there's no series name field in your m3u), but it might be worth giving it a try.

I just mentioned it as an immediate remedy to get past this limitation. I'd still like to understand what's happening exactly. Could you please: Open a new browser tab Press F12 to open dev tools Switch to the network tab in dev tools Make sure that the "Waterfall" column is visible If not, right-click any column header, then click on Waterfall to make the column visible Paste the m3u URL in the browser tab Look at the network tab Hover the mouse over the Waterfall column item entry (containing some color bars) until the popup is shown Press WIN+SHIFT+S or the Print key to make a screenshot of the popup It should look like this: (note: instructions are for Chromium based browsers) Thanks! Sorry for the delay. RL stuff and also couldn't get the waterfall to work. Sorted now 1
horstepipe 422 Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 Hello I am just trying it out with the Kika url from here: https://streamfeeds.github.io/web/sources/de-deu-kika_zdftivi-tvshows-intl-mv.html First parsing will take some hours because of the metadata. So I am wondering. If I refresh that m3u, how will it behave? Will it only scan for new content and fetch metadata for it? Or will every refresh take that long? BR
Luke 42077 Posted September 12, 2025 Author Posted September 12, 2025 It should get faster after that. 1

Sorted now Thanks a lot for trying this. The complete duration is just half a second and the 10s timeout that Emby uses, is only for the 0.73ms + 329.27ms. That makes me wonder what it really happening when you try to add this URL in Emby: Does it actually take 10 seconds until you get the error?
gillmacca01 211 Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 Im out at the moment, but will try when I get home and grab the logs for you. What level logging do you want?

Each item is getting hashed to make it unique in Emby and to keep the identitites of already imported items (also important for favorite, watched, playback position and other features). This also makes sure that metadata will stick and won't be re-retrieved, so future metadata refreshes will only cover the delta (new items). 1

softworkz 5065 Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 @gillmacca01 - Thanks a lot for the log! It clearly shows that it is in fact waiting for those 10s while your browser is getting a response within less than 350ms. I'm pretty sure that the non-response is a kind of security measure. Probably very similar to what @archeconhas encountered: When the request doesn't appear to be "sane" (like from a browser or an app), the provider rejects it. This can happen through an error response or even a non-response. We'll have to analyze this, please give us a little time. 1
gillmacca01 211 Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 Until you have time to sort it out, I'm going to manually download the m3u - just to see what it looks like in Emby and if any issues
gillmacca01 211 Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 My m3u contains movies and tv shows. Do I have to add the m3u twice and select the correct content type, or should I be selected a different content type?

But in addition, you'll need to use the filtering to avoid having it import the movies as tv series and vice versa. 1 1
gillmacca01 211 Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 I may have found a bug. I added a m3u as web videos (I think it was called). After a while I realised the mistake I made, so I removed the source. Now when I try to add the same m3u file, it doesn't show me an option to choose content type

To expand on this topic: That's not just a workaround but an intended and supported way for setting up. You can add the same M3U url as many times as you like, each time with different filters and/or content types, building and shaping "sub-libraries" in whichever way you like. This way, you gain a high amount of flexibility and that also makes it easier to set up filters when you just want to include a number of rather specific things (easier than creating a single complex filtering condition with lots of OR groups.

gillmacca01 211 Posted September 13, 2025 Posted September 13, 2025 So, just added 1 group from movies & set the content type as Movies. How much metadata should it be pulling in? I'm seeing posters only, and the title of the movie is the same as in the m3u (maybe i'm wrong, but thought it would update the name)

The posters are from the stream source.
horstepipe 422 Posted September 14, 2025 Posted September 14, 2025 looks like webstreams currently only uses thetvdb as metadata provider for tvshows? At least I'm seeing some shows where some metadata is available on themoviedb and imdb, but not on thetvdb. Are more options planned or an option to choose the providers by oneself?
horstepipe 422 Posted September 14, 2025 Posted September 14, 2025 (edited) @Luke looks like with this new featue some new options in the episode view are needed. We will have lots of shows where all episodes are listed in one season as info from metadata providers is missing. So at the moment it is very hard to scroll through hundreds of episodes e.g. on Android. I see two options, providing both would be ideal: 1) Add a sort order option with sort reverse by release date 2) On Android: press FF to skip pages, long press FF to go to the end of the list BR Edited September 14, 2025 by horstepipe
horstepipe 422 Posted September 14, 2025 Posted September 14, 2025 @softworkz wondering, why is there that limit? "The maximum number of top-level sources is 4 and must not be exceeded"
