areinink 0 Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 So I used Kodi, a built-in, non-upgradeable version for many years on a Android 8 TV-box. My multimedia is available on a QNAP NAS since 2013. For more than one reason I retired the box and took a Window 11 mini pc. Because of privacy reasons I installed Windows 11 Tiny (Proffessional). At this moment the pc is updated to the actual version. In my research the last year I came to the conclusion that Emby would be a better choice. What did I do? I took my testing laptop with Windows 10 and installed the actual version of Emby. I use the Windows 10 Proffessional version. No Microsoft account was made or used. I had read that Microsoft changed something with networking in their version 24H2. So, I followed this procedure: ------- Disable the SMB client signing requirement: a. On the Start Menu search, type gpedit and start the Edit Group Policy app (i.e. Local Group Policy Editor). b. In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings> Local Policies > Security Options. c. Double-click Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always). d. Select Disabled > OK. Disable the guest fallback protection: a. On the Start Menu search, type gpedit and start the Edit Group Policy app (i.e. Local Group Policy Editor). b. In the console tree, select Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates> Network > Lanman Workstation. c. Double-click Enable insecure guest logons d. Select Enabled > OK. ------- I installed the actual, portable X64 version of Emby-server on my test-pc (´service' used). The installation was straight forward. I used the credential manager of Windows to add a user to the test-system for connecting my NAS. I mapped the several shared folders on my NAS, they became visible in the Windows Explorer as driveletters. I started Emby and when I got to the library section in the menu I was able to select the media as a driveletter. After adding a library my movies showed up in Emby and I was able to play them. Great. I was convinced that Emby would be a far better choice for me than Kodi. But... I followed exactly the same procedure as above on my Windows Tiny 11 pc. Everthing went OK. Everthing looked the same. I could start a movie or listen to my music just by going to driveletter of the mapped shared folder and select an item. In my case VLC played the film or audiotrack instantly. But unfortunately I could not add a library in Emby by selecting the corresponding mapped sharefolder using a driveletter. Only the C:\ drive with sub-folders is visible. Also filling out the internal IP-address of the NAS gave the same error. I am confused. What is going wrong? Please point out how I can make the drive-letters in Emby, so I can add my libraries. Regards, André

Luke 42077 Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks!
areinink 0 Posted September 13, 2025 Author Posted September 13, 2025 Sorry for the delay in responding. I think that I have found the problem. First it seems that the shared folders were mapped correctly to driveletters. But later I discovered that the driveletters disappeared although I mapped them with the 'Persistant' command. I made a batch-file with the mappings and added the execution using the Microsoft Planner at logon. Until now everything works correctly. Kind regards, André
Luke 42077 Posted September 17, 2025 Posted September 17, 2025 @areininkThanks for following up. Windows will disconnect mapped drives when they idle, and for this reason we recommend using the original network path with Emby, rather than the mapped path.
