Hisense Roku Tv - Video Themes

I know Roku doesn’t support video themes but I’ve installed the plugin and downloaded themes for my other TVs and users.

but now my Hisense Roku TV when selecting a movie or show doesn’t show the backdrop art. If I delete the “backdrops” folder which contains the “theme.mp4” file then it shows the backdrop.
is there a way to keep using themes but have the Roku TV still show the artwork when selecting a show or movie?

HI, that's really odd. Are you sure it's the Roku app? What version number?

Yes versions 4.1.48

see images below with version number and a screenshot of tv show Foundation that just has black screen now and no background

also new problem - look at last two pictures. The next up thumbnail pictures are of in chapter parts of the show only on the Roku and on everything else it’s the metadata Thumbnail image. It use to be the thumbnail image on the Roku as well

The request for the backdrop is coming back 404. The ID is missing from the request. Instead the ID has became "" an empty string.

When you add the "backdrops" folder does it contain just the video backdrop, or does the folder contain _all_ the images backdrops as well as the video backdrop?

The backdrops folder only has theme.mp4 prior to using video theres I never had a backups folder with my movies.
and the backdrops are working on iOS , web browser, google tv and android

No. Running version 4.9.1.26 beta and I cannot replicate this issue. Have placed the backdrops folder and the theme.mp4 inside. I do not have the video backdrop plugin installed since it isn't presently supported in the Roku app.

Does the Video Backdrops Plugin modify the BackdropImageTags property of the item? The item has BackdropImageTags for me. The details view of the Roku app depends on the BackdropImageTags being passed through to allow the backdrops to get counted and cycle the display.

The issue looks like the BackdropImageTags are empty which will cause the Roku to try to use the ParentBackdropImageTags but the ParentBackdropItemId is missing.

The only way the URL can be built in this way is it was created during the RandomBackdrop function. It will check if there are BackdropImageTags and if so use the ID to fetch. If there are no BackdropImageTags it will use the ParentBackdropImageTags and the ParentBackdropItemId. It would seem the ParentBackdropItemID is empty creating the URL we see above.

@LukeHow does the web app fallback with backdrops? There must be some difference there.

So maybe this is the issue? That you need to validate this before using it?

Is this something for me to try? What exactly do I need to do?

@LukeI can add this issue to our tracker. Then we can discuss by sharing code examples and figure this out without creating noise in this thread.

Reference: Issue #1728: Backdrops do not show/rotate when the "Video Themes" plugin is used just a black screen is shown

The backdrops folder only has theme.mp4

Hi.  As a test, if you remove this folder from an item and refresh metadata on it, do the backdrops then start showing properly in the Roku app?

Not all of my movies or shows have music or video themes.
so example the show Terminal doesn’t have a theme file or folder and still has no backdrops now. So for me to test your theory i would have to delete every music and video theme from all my media to test which i don’t want to do of course

Okay, so it is quite possible that the video themes is a red-herring and has nothing to do with your issue.

Can you please  follow the instructions to send a log from the app?   Open a detail page where the backdrop is not showing and then go back to the app home screen and send the log. Then come tell us here exactly when you did that.

Thanks.

I think the other guys are looking into it as they were able to replicate it.

however I tried to capture the logs but don’t quite understand. It says if I enable debug in Roku Emby app then it will add a send log option but I don’t see that anywhere in Emby (after enabling debug) even after restart or on Home Screen

Hi.  As mentioned in that text, the send logs option is  under your user menu at the top of the home screen. (click user icon).

Thanks.

I'm not aware of our ability to replicate this issue at this point.
