Bambu Utila 9 Posted September 5, 2025 Posted September 5, 2025 Hi all, I'm in the process of moving Emby over from Windows do Proxmox. So far everything is working, I have access to my media and HW transcoding is working. For testing purposes i want to run both side by side for a little while to see how everything works on Proxmox. My question is how do i have both instances work properly without overwriting the .nfo files within the media folders. Right now Windows Emby is setup to write all data into .nfo files together with the media Is there a way to setup the same libraries on Proxmox and keep the metadata somewhere else so they don't interfere when a new movie/show gets added while both instances are still running? For moving my userdata over can i just use the backup function and will all that data come over nicely? I do have Emby Premiere!

Just mount the file systems as read-only on the Proxmox box. Also, in emby library settings: don't turn on; metadata saver ->nfo, save artwork into media folders...

I had a look at the .nfo files and they don't seem to contain any path info anymore, just data about the movie. So would it really matter if they both have save .nfo on? whoever picks it up first will create the .nfo file and the second one will just read the .nfo file. Or am i missing something here?
Luke 42077 Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 When the files change the server will reimport and do metadata refreshes on the next library scan. If they are both saving the sane files this could in theory create a situation where every library scan one server will be reacting to changes made by the other, endlessly.

So what would be the best way of doing this? Main goal is to move everything over to the Proxmox Emby version. I just want to keep the Windows instance alive while i move over to make sure everything is fine. After that i will shut down the Windows instance. Could i just turn off Library scan on changes in the libraries on the Windows instance and stop the daily task, then just add the libraries on the Proxmox instance? Last thing i want to do is move over my user settings so my watched states move over
Luke 42077 Posted September 6, 2025 Posted September 6, 2025 Yes if it's temporary then that should be fine.
