erwer 0 Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 (edited) embyserver (3).txt Emby window version, Windows 10 system, the server is deployed on Ubuntu; Alist mounts the cloud drive, and then Rclone mounts it to a local folder on Ubuntu. With this setup, videos can be watched normally on the Emby server, but when trying to watch videos on the emby window PC, this problem occurs. Basically, it feels like the Emby PC version’s wait time for video loading is a bit too short or something, because when playing via Emby Web in a browser, if the video needs to load, the picture will freeze and wait until the video finishes loading before automatically playing. The Emby PC version, on the other hand, just quickly skips to the next episode, and it keeps auto-skipping all the way to the last episode before finally loading and playing the video normally. softworkz 5065 Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 When you set up a library, do you enter any path in the yellow-marked field?
erwer 0 Posted September 4, 2025 Author Posted September 4, 2025 (edited) No, I didn't add any other paths here. I used OpenList + Rclone to mount the videos locally, converting the cloud drive files to local files. Then, when selecting the path, I added the path as shown in the image below, without adding any other paths below. I've carefully analyzed the issue with the uploaded video playing. I think it's probably because the mounted cloud drive files are cached. This means that each time a new video is played, it must be downloaded from the cloud drive to the local cache, resulting in long loading times. Emby Web provides ample caching time in the browser, so this issue of quickly skipping to the next episode doesn't occur. OpenList can mount any cloud drive that can be mounted, such as OneDrive/Sharepoint, and Google Drive, to test the issue I mentioned above. rclone mount fam189NetDisk:/ L: --cache-dir H:\RcloneCache --vfs-cache-mode writes Emby web demo of what needs to be loaded to play videos in the browser Edited September 4, 2025 by erwer
erwer 0 Posted September 4, 2025 Author Posted September 4, 2025 The problem occurs on the Emby window PC client. If the Emby server pushes the stream to the Emby PC client, the video takes a long time to load on the Emby PC client. If the user clicks the Next Episode button multiple times to play the next episode, the video may jump to the next episode in rapid succession until the last video on the current page, then stop or play the last loaded video.

Generally What you can expect to work Any solution that synchronizes media files to a local disk should be fine - as long as The full media files are available on disk There is no "dynamic downloading" only getting triggered when a media file gets accessed What does not work (or doesn't work well at least) File-system mounting solutions which are mapping file system requests to cloud retrieval commands Web App vs. Windows App There are multiple ways how playback is done, so what you are seeing is not exactly "Web App vs. Windows App", it's about the specific ways how playback is done in each case. You may see some difference when enforcing transcoding to happen always. There may be different timeouts involved. But I cannot guarantee that it will help. Generally, your scenario is not supported. If you still want to try out, you can enfore transcoding (always) by installing the Diagnostics Plugin and enabling the option below:
