Ronstang 293 Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 I am having a strange problem. I have been testing the latest beta server while still running the last stable server. I have been recording in both and everything was fine until yesterday when I set the beta server to record some movies for me from TCM. Not a single one will record. In the alerts it shows it keeps trying but failing over and over but the recordings I have set for other channels to record TV shows have all recorded perfectly, over and over for days. I do not know if it is relevant but this is using m3u tuners through Channels DVR as it is Direct TV streaming. Now, on my stable server all the movies from this channel have recorded all day long and were all perfectly fine as I just finished editing them to be encoded for archiving. I really don't understand the log files so I have included them for those that do and I appreciate any help because I want to switch over to the beta server permanently but I cannot until I get this recording glitch figured out. Thank you. embyserver-63892540800.txt embyserver.txt
sa2000 674 Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 There are loads of permissions errors for directory creation for this path B:\~Emby Movie Recordings\ e.g. 2025-09-03 08:07:39.017 Error LiveTV: Error recording to B:\~Emby Movie Recordings\Until They Sail (1957) (1957)\Until They Sail (1957) (1957).ts System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'B:\~Emby Movie Recordings\Until They Sail (1957) (1957)' is denied. at System.IO.FileSystem.CreateDirectory(String fullPath, Byte[] securityDescriptor) For TV Shows it appears to be recording e.g. 2025-09-04 02:58:00.428 Info LiveTV: Will record to B:\~Emby TV Show Recordings\Boy Meets World (1993)\Season 1\Boy Meets World S01E20 The Play's the Thing.ts for 34.99285808 minutes. 2025-09-04 03:33:00.022 Info LiveTV: Recording stopped: B:\~Emby TV Show Recordings\Boy Meets World (1993)\Season 1\Boy Meets World S01E20 The Play's the Thing.ts

The directory is already there and has been for a long time? What is the resolution? I actually thought it may be an issue with the library so I double checked that the path was correct. Luke 42077 Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 The server is being denied access to create files and folders on the B drive: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path 'B:\~Emby Movie Recordings\She Done Him Wrong (1933) (1933)' is denied. at System.IO.FileSystem.CreateDirectory(String fullPath, Byte[] securityDescriptor) What kind of drive is that?

I just made a new directory and then deleted and recreated the library and restarted the server and it is recording now. Not sure what the issue was because the other directory has been there for years and was used by emby for a long time until I changed it when I had to switch to the stable server because I wanted more space to allow me to ignore organizing for longer. It is also the drive that the transcoding directory for emby is for my other server. Could that be too much? This is just for testing at the moment. Edited September 4, 2025 by Ronstang
sa2000 674 Posted September 4, 2025 Posted September 4, 2025 Well, you have 2 directories on that drive. One was failing with the failure to create directory and one that did not fail This was giving errors B:\~Emby Movie Recordings This was not giving errors B:\~Emby TV Show Recordings What you could have done before the deletion, was to compare folder security permissions in folder properties for each and see if one perhaps did not have full permissions for the windows user account emby server runs in Glad it is fixed. Thanks for the feedback

Like I said this is just some testing so nothing here is finalized. I just want to make sure everything is working before I migrate to the new beta server. 1
Ronstang 293 Posted September 4, 2025 Author Posted September 4, 2025 Luke, did you read my answer to your earlier question about my drive type? Is anything in that post an issue?

Right, that was only so that I could try to offer the usual advice when this kind of error is encountered. That being, making sure the drive is available and reachable from windows explorer. And if it's a mapped network path try configuring emby with the actual network path instead.

It is a fully accessible drive in Windows, has been for a long time. Kind of hard for it not to be if the TV shows record to it but not the movies. Must have been a glitch. I will switch back to the original directory later just to see what happens. Now that I know it was just a directory access issue I am not concerned. I no longer deal with network drives because I took my second machine and server offline since I bought two 16Tb and two 18TB drives and no longer need multiple machines with a lot of 4 and 2TB drives. Less electricity and no need to deal with network issues and RDP etc. This all happened last February when emby went wonky for a month. Edited September 4, 2025 by Ronstang 1
