Luke 42077 Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Hi, LG does not support TrueHD passthrough to my knowledge. @SamES 1

maier64 5 Posted September 4, 2025 Author Posted September 4, 2025 I didn't know that, does this also go for DTS? Thanks for let me know, so for that purpose I need a different device

Thanks for let me know, so for that purpose I need a different device For DTS, it depends on your TV model. If your model supports DTS then it should support pass through as well. The issue with TrueHD is that it's a lossless HD format. DTS doesn't have this issue. DTS-HD is a different format and the 'HD' component will be removed by the TV and it will passthrough just the DTS core (without the HD component).
maier64 5 Posted September 4, 2025 Author Posted September 4, 2025 Well, my LG Model is 86QNED86A6A Modelyear is 2025, DTS is also not passed to my Denon, it arrives as DD+ Since the TV should not decode any audio format, I do not understand why it cannot be passed through.

The Emby app and server are aware that it's not supported and therefore are having the server transcode the audio. At least that's what I think is happening. We can confirm this by looking at an example; How to Report a Problem

What is probably happening is that the TV is automatically selecting the next playable track (that's not DTS), which I'm guessing is DD+/EAC3 (as we encode to DD/AC3)

There should be something that Emby allows to ignore that.

There should be something that Emby allows to ignore that. It does actually matter. Lg tvs will not pass through audio that they don’t support. If you want to see for yourself you can try temporarily restricting user transcoding permissions to force it to direct play. Then, assuming you’ve got the truehd track selected, I can guarantee you will get no sound. Just be aware that the lg video player may automatically switch to another track, so the best way to test this is with a video file that has only a single audio track.
maier64 5 Posted September 5, 2025 Author Posted September 5, 2025 OK, somehow it's very strange, I wonder why LG does that. I'm aware that this is not Embys fault. However, this thing with the permissions (temporarily restricting user transcoding permissions to force it to direct play), where can I do that. Since we are out of town this weekend, I'm going to try this next week. Thank you so much for your help so far.

Luke 42077 Posted September 5, 2025 Posted September 5, 2025 Just don't forget to undo it after testing or it will most likely cause playback problems.
maier64 5 Posted September 11, 2025 Author Posted September 11, 2025 So, finally I tested it, it is like you said, no sound when transcoding is off. Now I tested it with a Dune HD Max 8K with Emby APP, and now it's the same thing as with LG, the playaer by itself plays everything fine and TrueHD Sound will be passed to Denon. So far so good, but if I use the Emby App on the player, it doesn't play at all, if I deactivate transcoding for both video and audio, it plays the video but no sound, if I deactivate transcoding only for audio it also doesn't play at all. In this case no LG is involved, Denon is capable and the Dune also of course, so why does Emby transcoding even if the player can passthrough all those formats
maier64 5 Posted September 11, 2025 Author Posted September 11, 2025 I was able to go to the playstore and download emby and it is working fine beside that, Dune is on android 11 1
Luke 42077 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 OK the app can pass through truehd no problem, assuming that the device can. However you might have to configure the audio settings on the device a certain way to do this.
maier64 5 Posted September 11, 2025 Author Posted September 11, 2025 Well, could't find anything, device is on audio passthrough, and emby as a client on that device should know that, but it seems it tells the server to transcode, very strange
Luke 42077 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Did you explore the stats feature in the video player to learn why it was transcoding?
maier64 5 Posted September 11, 2025 Author Posted September 11, 2025 I have to admit I got no idea where to look
Luke 42077 Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 @sh0rtydoes your Dune do True HD passthrough?
