nospotify 184 Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Given the sunsetting of Windows 10, I am thinking about buying a Chromebook to migrate my Emby server to. Is there any guidance as to minimum requirements for Emby to run comfortably in that environment, i.e. how much free SSD space and minimum memory? And will a full Emby server backup restore properly on the new platform if copied over?
Jdiesel 1431 Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 Could it be done? Maybe? Is it a good idea? No. Save yourself some headache and run the server on anything other than a Chromebook. A mini PC from 2013 is even a better option. If you can setup Linux you are even better off. Plenty of options out there but I Chromebook would be at the bottom of my list by far. 2 1

I could stay with my Windows machine, but it isn't upgradable to Windows 11 and MS is ending security updates for W10. No interest in learning Linux. It's a puzzle what to do, other than spend dumb money on a new Windows machine...
Jdiesel 1431 Posted August 31, 2025 Posted August 31, 2025 (edited) Use Rufus to create a Windows 11 usb install drive. During the creation setup there is a check box to bypass the compatibility check on older hardware. It will require a fresh install though. Edited August 31, 2025 by Jdiesel 1 1
