bwnuse 2 Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 Is there a way to configure Emby on Roku TV to have a side menu like the browser layout does? I have looked and cannot find a way to do this, so I assume it is not a current option. If this is possible, I am not finding where this is done. This is way easier and better to navigate to my libraries than using the current Roku layout. 1
Gilgamesh_48 1240 Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 I believe it is possible but I also think it would be difficult to program on the Roku. However there is a bit of a caveat on that: The "official" Android Emby app does have a side menu and it is horrible to use. I do use the official Android app but only because it has a vastly better player. It seems that programing the side menu is quite hard even for Android as the "new" app is full of bugs and I only use it because of the MUCH better player that, in particular, makes playback of live TV a lot better than live TV on any other device I own. I think that an attempt to add a side Menu to the Roku app would ruin it.
speechles 2055 Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 (edited) We do intend on eventually getting this into the Roku app. Presently, the Roku doesn't have the side menu because people prefer the fixed focus wrapping style of navigation. Where as you move left from the first item you can move to the last item and can move from the last item to the first item. All while the content has wrapped itself into a single infinite row. This is how Roku will default most scrolling on its own apps. This is why Emby also defaults that way. To match the known behavior. We offer the choice of floating focus for scrolling. This has a definite beginning and end to the row. When moving from the beginning to the left would could have the same slide-out menu appear from the left. Then you could do the exact same thing as the web app. It isn't more difficult to do than any other panel in the Roku app. Copying the entire look/feel of the web app is possible on the Roku. It would just require the user is using floating focus rather than fixed focus. Edited August 29, 2025 by speechles
Roxics 3 Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 (edited) I'm also looking forward to this feature (vertical text menus) now that Plex has gotten rid of it and has angered a lot of users including myself who came to Emby looking for it. I saw the web app has it, so I figured the Roku app might as well. Sad to find out it doesn't. Not only does it feel easier to navigate vertically, when you have a lot of libraries, but being text only it also hides thumbnails for certain libraries that you may not want others to see thumbnails for. If you can add this and a way to see the bitrate/resolution of each video when filtering by bitrate I'll be a happy camper Emby convert once and for all. I think a lot of old Plex users will.
