Riptide126 24 Posted August 28, 2025 Posted August 28, 2025 Hello, I’ve noticed an issue with subtitles on certain shows. If I start playback, enable subtitles, and then rewind, the subtitles that were originally displayed correctly appear duplicated—sometimes tripled or even quadrupled. I’ve attached a Google Drive link with a video demonstrating the problem, along with my Emby server logs and screenshots of my subtitle settings. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1W4zoAV5S47cztOvZm7VdQ15ClIe6Y2qO/view?usp=sharing embyserver.txt
Luke 42223 Posted August 29, 2025 Posted August 29, 2025 Hi we’ll take a look at it. Thanks for reporting. 1
Luke 42223 Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Hi, can you please attach the corresponding ffmpeg log as well? Thanks.
Riptide126 24 Posted September 3, 2025 Author Posted September 3, 2025 Here you go, also in trying to get this log I found out it only does it on my phone, when doing it on firefox on my pc it didn't do it. I was using an iphone and the ios emby app. ffmpeg-transcode-80ab6b5f-6816-4d24-80dd-0174d03e43eb_1.txt
Riptide126 24 Posted December 5, 2025 Author Posted December 5, 2025 Ok so quick update on this that I think should be easy to test, I recently moved to having SRT subtitles available because I have heard they are much more reliable. But I recently found that only on the emby mobile app, when I use SRT subs on certain shows, everytime I pause and play the show the subtitles duplicate and just stack up on top of each other. It does not happen to me on the web app when I try it. If you'd like any logs from me or anything like that let me know but I think it is essentially the same issue, just wanted to state it's also occuring with external subs. 1
justkidding 1 Posted 7 hours ago Posted 7 hours ago I'm chiming in because I am experiencing this exact same issue on the iOS app, and honestly, it's becoming incredibly frustrating. Just like the original poster, whenever I rewind or pause/play, the subtitles duplicate and stack on top of each other (tripling or quadrupling). This happens with both embedded subs and external SRT files. It makes watching anything with subtitles completely unbearable on my iPhone I noticed this bug was originally reported back in August of last year, acknowledged in September, and seemingly left unresolved since then. As a paying Emby Premiere subscriber, I'm really not impressed by this kind of lingering issue. Subtitles are a basic, essential feature not a niche edge-case and bugs that break them this severely shouldn't be sitting around for months without a hotfix Can we please get a concrete status update on this? When can we actually expect a patch for the iOS app to address the subtitle stacking/duplication bug? I can provide logs if needed, but i would like to see actual bugfix on this 1
visproduction 333 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago Doubling up is strange. Is it possible you have a second subtitle service turned on? Apparently, that is available with Apple iOS. https://robots.net/tech/how-to-add-subtitles-to-video-on-iphone/
Riptide126 24 Posted 1 hour ago Author Posted 1 hour ago I’m confident this isn’t related to that setting—I don’t have it enabled, and the behavior consistently occurs when pausing or rewinding in the Emby app. At this point, I’ve largely given up on troubleshooting this issue (and several others I’ve reported) due to the lack of response and progress from the Emby team. Many of these problems have been open for years without resolution, and in some cases, they make certain media completely unwatchable—for example, failing to transcode without errors. As a result, I’ve started moving more of my usage over to Plex to avoid these ongoing issues. I know this isn’t directly related to the original topic, but I felt it was worth expressing my overall frustration with the current state of things.
