A way to check and reset the database(s)

I way to check and try to repair or reset the databases would be nice.  Like when your people's database gets corrupted or something, it would be nice to try to fix it and maybe just rebuild it or something.

I have.  Thank  you for suggesting that.

I had an issue where a drive died.  Then I put in a new drive and UNRAID wouldn't accept the new drive because it was slightly smaller than the old drive.  So, I had to manually move all the data off the drive (emulated via parity) to other physical drives.  This included emby's backup data.  Anyway, once I managed to do all that, then I slotted in the new drive and got it working.  My people's database was fine at first.  Then I received an update (beta version of emby server) and something in my emby database/setting broke.  A lot of the permissions got messed up as well and many files changed ownership from 'daemon' to 'root' for some reason, so I had to go through and fix all that.  Regardless, I wasn't able to restore using backup.  So, I couldn't really get the people's database working.  It would display people but not the related movies and TV shows for people.  Anyway, I messed with it for about a week or so and sort of/kind of partially got it working again... then another Emby beta version update came out and I updated and that, for some unknown reason fixed the issue entirely.

Anyway, it would have been handy dandy to have a button to reset permissions and ownership of all the emby files, and one to fix/reset database.

Just NO, Why should Emby control you filesystem.

Its a big NO NO that a program should control that.

It might be an option, but just no.

If Emby is setup incorrectly, and your admin user is exposed to the internet, and a bad actor gets access.

We could lose not only our media, but everything.

Bad actor : Great got access.

Bad actor : lets delete everything 😈, not only media 😈

Its better to use 3-2-1 backup.

So that you don't lose your DB.

I will have to check out 3-2-1 backup.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Anyway, my suggestion was a suggestion.  It would be nice to have though for these situations.  Regardless, I don't have an issue with Emby having control over it's own files and the ability to correct things under the direction of the user.  Meaning, if you want to do something you have the option to do it.  If you do not want to do it, then you don't.

Anyway, I do not actually expect the Emby devs to implement the suggestion, as they rarely do implement suggestions, and they will probably have issues with this anyway.  However, it sure would have saved me a ton of work had it been available.

Hi, we implement suggestions every single day.

Hi Luke,

I think I struck a nerve there.  Don't get  upset.  That was said tongue in check.  I realize you guys do.  I might have better said that Emby devs rarely implement silly suggestions such as mine.  As I do not consider my suggestion high priority or of high enough importance to be considered.  I just wanted to post it, just in case... you never know.
