Santiag0 10 Posted August 23, 2025 Posted August 23, 2025 I have been doing a lot of reading ever since I seen that nord meshnet is being stopped and was thinking now might be the time to force myself to learn Ubuntu linux. I did try it 3 years ago but I was not able to connect my external drives to my Emby server library nothing I tried worked it just gave I never had permission errors forcing me back on windows. What I would like to do is install Ubuntu with proton vpn and maybe software like Twingate unless I can port forward safely. Is it worth it making the switch and does Ubuntu still not allow external hard drives to connect to Emby without having linux skills.
Luke 42077 Posted August 24, 2025 Posted August 24, 2025 hi, regarding the permissions, I think if you follow this guide then you should have no trouble importing your external drives:
Santiag0 10 Posted August 25, 2025 Author Posted August 25, 2025 I asked my kid brother about this and he looked at it and said as long as I use his remote shares on his windows it won't matter it only matters if I directly connect his external drives to my computer if I run ubuntu on it. Which I might so thank you Luke. 1
