suppervinny 1 Posted August 22, 2025 Posted August 22, 2025 When opening the same channel on two or more devices, Emby should use only one internet stream from that same channel. However, it bypasses all streams from the same internet channel. I'd like to request a fix so that Emby uses only one internet stream and mirrors it to two or 100 devices, regardless of how many are accessing the same channel simultaneously. This saves internet and server resources. In other words, when you open two streams from the same channel, Emby will only use one web stream from that same channel.
Luke 42077 Posted August 22, 2025 Posted August 22, 2025 Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
suppervinny 1 Posted August 23, 2025 Author Posted August 23, 2025 Hi, I'm not reporting a playback issue, I'm requesting a new feature from Emby. As I explained above, when watching an IPTV channel on Emby, if 2 users watch the same channel, Emby opens 2 streams of the same channel coming from the internet, instead of opening only 1 web stream of the IPTV channel and mirroring that single stream to the 2 users. For example: I have an IPTV M3U subscription that only allows me to have one screen at a time, but I want Emby to play the same channel on 10 different TVs. Currently, this isn't possible because Emby will stream 10 IPTV streams and it won't work. The correct way would be for Emby to stream just one instance of the channel and mirror it to the 10 Emby users.

If the stream is HLS, then depending on the HLS features being used, then we do not support those yet with our stream sharing feature. One example would be if the HLS has the audio and video split into separate urls. 1

So the streams must not be split yet. 1
griam01 14 Posted September 10, 2025 Posted September 10, 2025 @LukeI stumbled on this thread. So if the stream is in TS format, in Emby, then if someone is streaming the same channel, it would only use 1 IPTV "connection" but multiple users could see the same one. For example football game on same channel at same time? The "split" would be done on Emby, not with the IPTV provider side, so they would only see 1 stream being used?
