An actively recording show won't play past its scheduled end time

So I have emby setup to record a race from an OTA tuner and given they often run over or get weather delays I have told it to record a few hours past the end.  If I go to the emby library where emby stores recordings and start viewing the event while it is still recording (so I'm watching "live" with a delay) the playback will stop at the scheduled end time (duration into recording, not wall clock) even though the recording is still going.  Once it gets in this state I basically can't view the recording at all.  I can't go back or forward, nor start it from another device.

Once the recording ends (whether by going full extra time or my clicking stop) I can then view the entire recording and navigate back etc.

I see this with the android tv app and the emby web viewer.

I can use vlc to view the recording file directly from where emby is writing it  and it has no issue playing past the scheduled end while the recording is still going.

Seems like some metadata issue between your own server and player.  Server is 4.8.11.0 and presumably web app is always the same as the server app.

No I don't have an example as it only occurs live.  Again once the recording is over all is well.

Why not just set the metadata to the full length of the recording when you start it?  Doesn't seem that difficult of a fix.

HI there, can you please provide a specific example?

How to Report a Problem

Thanks !

As I mentioned I cannot as it only happens in live recordings.  Start a live recording with extra time.  Start playback while recording is still going.  Once you reach the end of the nominally scheduled time (which does not include the extra time) your playback software shows a messed up value for the time remaining when seeking.  And eventually (but somewhat randomly) it will just refuse to seek forward or backward.  The problem goes away when the recording ends.  (Either by the extra time expiring or manually ending the recording.)

So given live playback works fine with seeking during the nominally scheduled time period, you clearly write info somewhere with the nominal expected length.  But then once you go past this length things go bad.  So my suggestion is write the full expected length including extra time.

This is using an hdhomerun, and streaming the .ts files w/o transcoding into your native web client and the android tv client.

Seems the easiest example is just for you to pick a short program add a few hours extra time, then seek to the extra time while still recording.

OK we'll take a look at it. Thanks for reporting.
