Remote playback bitrate being ignored

A friend and I were watching a bluray movie "together" - he was remote using the android app and I was local using a web browser on a mac. The server is a linux vm. Dashboard showed both running 37mbps - I was having no problems and he was getting a lot of buffering, probably because I'm on comcast with a 40mpbs upload limit. I went into playback and set "Chromecast" quality to 5mbps - since the only other option was "home network", I figured chromecast was an alias for "remote", but no, both streams were still 37mbps. I set both home and chromecast to 10mbps...and mine went to 10mbps but his stayed at 37?!? Puzzled...

Hi, chromecast is for actual chromecast devices. Is that what you're using?

Also are you able to update to Emby Server 4.8.11?

No; treating Chromecast as "remote" was just a guess and I wasn't terribly surprised it didn't work, but there really needs to be a "remote network" option

I may get a chance to update the server Sunday or next week

There is, right in the same place, but only when the server detects the app as being on a remote network.

Are you using a reverse proxy? Have you touched any of the emby server network settings?

No, I'm local to the emby server and trying to manage it. My friends don't have permission to manage the server, but I guess that is in the user playback settings; I was thinking it was a server setting, but now I realize it was for my own playback. OK, I see there's a bitrate limit in the network section - I haven't been there since I setup the server, which was before I started letting friends connect, so I'll set that limit. That should solve my problem...
