Networked user

I am back to the same problem of not knowing how to let a NON-local user, use my server......... Granddaughter just move into an apartment and I am trying to set her to access my server....  She has created a "connect" account and I don't have a clue how to give her directions to connect to my server.  

I always end up setting them up with Plex, cause it is soooooooooo simple compared to Emby.

Any help would be appreciated.

You need to create local user for her. Afterwards link that user to her connect address.

I have read that over and over........... I don't know what "Afterwards link that user to her connect address" means......... How do I do that???   I go through this every year and end up using  Plex.........

Is there a video on how to do that???

Fill up this field with her Connect email address; she'll receive an email to that address to confirm link.

Yes, as Emby Connect is an optional feature, not mandatory.

Now, on her end she keeps getting three options and NONE work....add sever, sign in with emby connect, downloads.........

You shouldn't, as the process should actually be pretty straightforward.

Did she received confirmation email?

If she did and confirmed link, once she selects "Sign in with Emby Connect" and enters her Connect credentials (email/password), what happens?

Where in the setup does it send an email??? I don't think she got an invite.  We are communicating via text and there is slooooowww responsive from her.

Edit: She does NOT have a computer, all of her interactions are from her iPhone.

I did add her email address to that box...... Don't know  if she got an email.  Where does it say to SEND an email??

Until she confirms that she did receive it and that she did confirm link within, she won't be able to connect through Connect.

It is sent automatically once connect address is entered & saved server-side.

Just to throw it out there, since I know you are a long-time Emby user @clarkss12

Have you actually configured Emby and your network setup for external connections?

All of the above Emby Connect stuff will be kinda redundant if you have yet to setup and allowed external connections to Emby first.

I made a reply but it disappeared, so if this is a duplicate, I apologize.

I have my router to port forwarding.  I know this works, because I can watch my TV shows from my antenna on my roof and videos stored on hard drives on my network using my cellular phone thousands of miles from home.

Been going through this every autumn for several years because of the NFL games.  My son lives several states away, and can't get our local team, so he has to use MY antenna to watch the game in my area.   We try to get Emby to work on his TVs, but never have been successful.  We end up using Plex, and I hate Plex, but it is so simple to connect.

Plex might not be able to direct connect either and could be falling back to their relay service that kicks in automatically and toe routes everything through their servers. But doesn’t that sound like an invasion of privacy?

I am getting all confused.  I guess I'm going to have to go to her house and try to set it up on her TV instead of trying to do it in my house.

I can sign into Emby connect on my phone without any problems.  I'm just not able to get her TV to connect to my server.  I think she created an account but I cannot verify that. 

When I try to use Emby connect using her email address and password I just get an error message. The error message does not tell me anything.
