Turtle7 1 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 Same thing here. Emby has operated flawlessly for years and as recently as last Monday. It still works fine on the pc, but no longer connects to 3 different TV's although it recognizes the server. Plex works fine! No clue what to try next.
pwhodges 2012 Posted August 18, 2025 Posted August 18, 2025 Has Windows changed the networking mode from Private to Public in a recent update? Paul

Paul I'm running Windows 10 Home but haven't received any updates (yet) and my installation can still be used locally and remotely. Maybe they're both running on W11 in which case I won't get that update hehe. 1 hour ago, Turtle7 said: Same thing here. Emby has operated flawlessly for years and as recently as last Monday. How are you connecting to your server with your TV? Is it via a domain or via your local IP-address, or your remote IP-address? Edited August 18, 2025 by brothom
Turtle7 1 Posted August 18, 2025 Author Posted August 18, 2025 The TV All TV's (Roku) are on the local network. Two use Wi-Fi while the third is Ethernet connected. Nothing appears to have changed and everything else works normally.

So the question re Private/Public still needs answering to eliminate it as an issue. And as Emby's behaviour has changed, something in the system must have changed to cause it - which is what we need to try to tease out... Paul

I just wanted to point out that my W10 was still working fine, so it doesn't seem to be related to a single (new) update or version. 33 minutes ago, Turtle7 said: The TV All TV's (Roku) are on the local network. If you open the server settings in the app, does it connect using the Home (LAN) address or the Remote (WAN) address? You can find which is which in your Emby Server's dashboard. Never share your WAN-address btw. When using your PC, do you use app.emby.media to connect to your server or do you use an IP-address as well?
Turtle7 1 Posted August 18, 2025 Author Posted August 18, 2025 Probably of no importance, but I'm running Win 10 Pro. And a correction: when I said Emby worked last Monday, I was mistaken. It didn't, which is when I switched to Plex. Not sure when the last time I used Emby, but it might have been over a month ago.
Turtle7 1 Posted August 19, 2025 Author Posted August 19, 2025 Still clueless, but just for giggles installed Emby on another desktop computer on the same network. It works!!! So obviously, something went haywire on my main computer … but what? All settings seem correct, the right server appears on the TV, but it just won't log in. I hate to do it, but I may just uninstall, cross my fingers, and reinstall. Will report back whenever I know what's up.

Do you have the firewall (or defender) enabled? You could temporarily disable it or add Emby and it's ports to the exceptions so that communication via those ports is allowed.
Turtle7 1 Posted August 20, 2025 Author Posted August 20, 2025 Things have gotten even more confusing! I removed and reinstalled Emby on my primary computer and now it won’t display even the library. Yes, the library location is correct and all other settings are identical to those on the secondary machine where I installed Emby yesterday. Both machines use the same firewall program, but that’s not even an issue until the library can once again be displayed on the primary machine. Well, at least Emby on secondary machine is working, but I’d sure like to figure out what’s going on with the other computer. Thanks for your help!
Neminem 1518 Posted August 20, 2025 Posted August 20, 2025 Server logs might help us see what's wrong
Solution Turtle7 1 Posted August 20, 2025 Author Solution Posted August 20, 2025 Forget everything – all’s good again. I’m not sure what the exact problem was restoring the library, but that’s now back. And you’re absolutely right – it was a firewall setting. I recently switched firewall programs after using ZoneAlarm approximately forever; and evidently the “trust this network” setting on the primary machine’s firewall was no longer set correctly. However, Emby “remembered” the server name which added to the confusion. It’s a little early to celebrate (eastern time zone), but I’ll drink one for you at happy hour this evening! Thanks again!!! 1
