hey all,

i have new users attempting to log in with standard emby connect and getting denied saying wrong email/pw. they will use both the app and web based access to do a simple sign in. they will also change the pw and still get the same “wrong un/pw”. i had one user open a new emby connect account in front of me, verified the email, and it would not let them sign in on the app nor via web. i watched them change the pw and still no access. i have up to 4 users reporting this as the same issue. any help would be appreciated. thanks!

HI, how exactly are they changing their password?  When they sign in, what does the title of the login screen say?

The most likely cause is they are confusing the difference between Emby Connect and your local server, and they are trying to use one set of credentials on the other's login screen.

I would love for it to be that simple. I troubleshot with one of the users in front of me. I specifically had them go to the correct login. They logged in, after I showed them how to look up the saved pw in Chrome. I then had them change the pw in front of me. They used said pw (confirmed correct), which resulted again with the second screenshot. Keep in mind that when the email and pw is applied, the error pops up, removing the email from the email field.

Hi, where did they change the password?

OK can you capture the contents of the browser debug console? Thanks.

Will do. Standby. And thanks.

Scratch that. Its almost 11pm E here. I dont think I will be able to get someone's credentials tonight to run a debug on my PC. I'll have to wait for them to share that info with me in the morning. I'll post the debug as soon as I get it.

That would be great. Thanks.

Other things to try is if they have a VPN on the device they're trying to login from, you could try temporarily disabling it. And then there is also the obvious making sure that browser autocomplete is not interfering with your entered password.

Yeah. So the other users I chalked up to "user education". Then I attempted to connect my own mother to the server and it did exactly what the other users reported. She doesnt have any VPN. She does have autocomplete active, but I was the one troubleshooting her access personally.

One of the users provided me with their email and PW but it's just giving me a standard 401 unauth when attempting to login. Standard debug response when the email and pw are not accurate, but she swears it's the current pw she is using. I am going to see about getting the credentials from my mom and go down that avenue in the morning. Keep you posted.

Hi, did you find anything?

Still in a pending state. It's been a busy week at work.

Ok I think the issue might possibly stem from a validation issue?

I had a user sign up, brand new to emby connect. They attempted to log into the emby app prior validating, which prompted what I assume is the 401 unauth. Same thing happened as the screenshot above, un/pw invalid. It wasnt until the new user validated is when the same un/pw was accepted.

As far as the three reported users, I have two existing users (older that 12 month users) who are attempting to log into a new device and getting what I assume is an email that has not been validated, or is it possible there is an expire on the white list for existing users who dont use emby connect over a period of time? Not sure if there's an audit done where emails are scrubbed if inactive longer than xxx?

As for the last user, I watched them open the account. I watched them validate, and it didnt take. I will have them pull the validate email and see if the link still works, to validate in front of me.

But bottom line, my theory stems from the emby's white list not seeing the email, whether it's user error or other possible avenues.

So for one user, there is no validation email. If i add them to my server, they will get an email confirming access to the server. But a validation email is still missing from this and I was given access to the user's email so I can trust and verify the steps taken. I have checked everywhere, waited over 2 hours, and even did a search for "emby". There is only the email below sent. Is there a way to force send a validation email so this user can be whitelisted? Until that step happens, we cannot get them logged into Emby Connect.

This is me, Osorus, on their account. So they have access to the forum.

Not sure what your thoughts are about the above?

That means the account is validated.

Right, and I would have thought the same. But it's not validated. If it was validated it would allow me to sign into Emby Connect

You did sign in.  Signing in to this forum is exactly the same as signing into Emby Connect.  Connect uses the forum authorization.

Also, I don't  think Emby Connect will even allow you to setup the link (accept the email in that field) if the Forum/Connect account is not properly validated.

I would try blanking the email and saving and then filling it back in and saving and then validating via the link in the email again.

And that's what I thought too. Which is why I left that comment there. I would attempt to sign into Emby Connect, get an invalid prompt. I confirmed I had access to the forum, so I knew the account was active, but I couldnt sign into Emby Connect.

And now I can sign in. I was going to do another screenshot to show it's not able to log in, but now I can get in.

Going to check with my other users to see if they are able to sign in as well.

Ok I guess we are good. Thanks all.
