Soundchasr 19 Posted November 19, 2025 Author Posted November 19, 2025 @Luke I'm assuming we're not going to find a fix (on this end) for the subtitle issue. I really want to stay with Emby. Is there another streamer that you like that has no problems with Emby?
ebr 16169 Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 The Roku player is the only one I'm aware of that is this strict with the flags. Most other players on all the other platforms, we can force the proper subs. 1
Luke 42077 Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 Did you try selecting the track in the player after playback started?

Luke 42077 Posted November 20, 2025 Posted November 20, 2025 Did you try clicking the subtitle icon in the video player?
Soundchasr 19 Posted November 21, 2025 Author Posted November 21, 2025 @luke In the web app they play. In the Roku, I choose the subtitle from the lists of subtitles There are many. None of them show unless I do playback correction.

Have you tried choosing the subs after playback starts instead of before? I don't think that will make a difference based on what we believe is going on here but its worth a shot.

I have tried before and after. I've tried turning them off and then on again, etc. Question for you: Is this something all Roku users are experiencing or is this an infrequent thing only some users experience? Trying to imagine what could be unique to this situation. Edited November 21, 2025 by Soundchasr
Neminem 1518 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 @Soundchasrare you still trying to play media on Roku device with +40 subs ?

On the file I'm currently looking at, there are more than 40 subs listed. I assume by that question, there is a point where too many create a problem? I can try with less. How do I delete some of them?
Neminem 1518 Posted November 21, 2025 Posted November 21, 2025 MKVToolNix news – Matroska tools for Linux/Unix and Windows can take the 1's you do not need out. And it will take a moment to do. Make a copy / backup of your file first.

It really shouldn't matter anymore because when it comes out the server it will not have that many anymore.

I see exactly this. It doesn't bother me because I ensure that the flags are such that Roku will accept them, and in any case most of my subs are SSA/ASS which forces burning in because the ROKU can't play them anyway. I can't prove there's no problem, but I've never seen an issue with the number of subtitle streams in a file, and I've certainly got some with over 30. Removing them is simply a matter of remuxing with MKVToolNix. You can select which subs you want manually, or you can set in the preferences which languages it should retain - in that case you just drop the file on the program window and click remux to get the job done. Soundchasr 19 Posted November 21, 2025 Author Posted November 21, 2025 As an update to everyone, I've decided to get rid of all my Rokus (I think I have 7 or so) and replace them with either Google TV Streamers or Fire TV Sticks. Subs are just too important for them not to work all the time. Just ordered the Google Streamer. We'll see how it is. Thanks for all the effort. 1 1
ebr 16169 Posted November 22, 2025 Posted November 22, 2025 Hi. Would you mind providing us a sample file just so we can confirm that our conjecture on what was going on here is correct?
