casminkey 19 Posted August 15, 2025 Posted August 15, 2025 I've seen this a few times now as I'm trying to gradually convert my entire library... I convert a movie but when it's done, there's a TON of subtitles. I have the library itself set up to only automatically search for English. Anything I'm missing?
Q-Droid 989 Posted August 15, 2025 Posted August 15, 2025 If the media files have embedded subtitles the conversion extracts them to VTT files.
casminkey 19 Posted August 15, 2025 Author Posted August 15, 2025 Got it. Anyway so that it keeps them embedded or only extract certain languages? I don't mind them being there but annoying when it usually defaults to Arabic. It seems to pick the first language in alphabetical order.
Q-Droid 989 Posted August 15, 2025 Posted August 15, 2025 I thought the list would show your preferred language first, then the rest alphabetically. Do you have a language set in your preferences?
Neminem 1518 Posted August 15, 2025 Posted August 15, 2025 Can you show media info at the very bottom. I would like to see what is set as Default.
Luke 42077 Posted August 15, 2025 Posted August 15, 2025 The conversion process will usually preserve all subtitles. Those external vtts were probably internal subrip on the original file.
casminkey 19 Posted August 15, 2025 Author Posted August 15, 2025 English forced subtitles are set as default in the original. After conversion, forced subtitles are no longer default

casminkey 19 Posted August 15, 2025 Author Posted August 15, 2025 Where do I set that? I already have English as my preferred language.

casminkey 19 Posted August 16, 2025 Author Posted August 16, 2025 Yes. When I go to my user settings, then subtitles, my preferred language is English. I even have a screen shot of that above. Is there somewhere else I should be setting this?
Luke 42077 Posted August 16, 2025 Posted August 16, 2025 You have track selection remembering set to enabled, so the default may have been chosen on what subtitles were enabled when you last played this content. Basically, the new default should be the same one that would have been selected automatically if you had played the old version of the file.

casminkey 19 Posted August 19, 2025 Author Posted August 19, 2025 So I tried this again just to make sure I'm not going crazy. Subtitle was set to English Force which is the default subtitle, I kicked off the conversion and when it finished there is no default subtitle track and it automatically selects Arabic. Before: Conversion: Post conversion: It doesn't do it with all media as I'm trying to convert my entire library but I've noticed it with a number of them. Or maybe it does and I haven't noticed or they don't have embedded subtitles.
Luke 42077 Posted September 26, 2025 Posted September 26, 2025 @casminkeywhat other subtitles does it have post conversion? The fact that it is extracting all of these looks normal.
