Subtitle placement option Emby for Android TV

Hi,

Is it normal to not have a placement option for subtitles (i.e. top of screen, bottom of screen) for Emby for Android TV? All subtitles are at the top which I find annoying, and there are no setting to change this.

Hi. This sounds like your subtitles have placement information included in them.  Is that the case?

Can we look at a specific example?

I can provide an example, but my question is about the options for subtitle placements in the client configuration for Emby for Android TV.

When you go to the Sub/Audio Defaults, there is no place where you can select the subtitle position. Why is this setting missing from the Emby for Android TV client?

Is there another place in this particular client app where this is chosen? All the other client apps have this option, LG, Android, Fire Tablet/TV, etc.

Hi.  Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares?

Thanks.

Not used ATV in a long time.  I thought it had subtitle placement, but only if the subtitle wasn't trying to place the text already.  It just won't override what a user has configured in the subtitle already.  Which I suppose makes sense.

It also won't move them outside the picture frame.  So if the movie has the black bars cropped you can't move them outside the video.

Been awhile though.

So yes, I have this (tried this) but I don't like the difference in the interface and options/look etc. Why doesn't the Android TV client app have the option for subtitle location, where every other client app/web has it?

Is the plan to deprecate the Android TV app?

It has the ability to apply an offset from the bottom.

I don't find any such setting, where would this be?

Hi, where did you look for it?

From the main settings audio/subs. There are options for font color etc, but no options for placement.

Is this per movie? I'm looking for a global setting lime the other clients.

I'm going to do some testing of those particular movies that are showing SUBs at the top, with the ATV client and with the other standard Android client!

If that's where they are showing in the TV app then it is because that is where they are directed to be shown within the subtitles themselves.

OK, so I used the option for placement DURING playback, and was able to move it to the bottom - the setting however is not intuitive, just shows percentages, noone would guess that tne of those settings would move it to the bottom of the screen, certainly not me.

So this seems to have been solved!

Ok, well nevermind - this is unresolved.

Android TV app - I am watching a show, and for all episodes, although there are selection for subtitles to choose from, when I select any of the 3 sub options, none show up on the screen; I tried to use the position feature, but no go.

On Android TV but using just the Emby app - all subs work

Can I ask - why is there an Android TV Emby app, and also an Emby app - is the Emby for Android TV app also in development like the Emby app, or is it just left there with no attention. No offense of any kind. I prefer the Android TV app interface, and I also like that it prompts you to exit it (where the Emby app does NOT - perhaps there should be a setting for this?)

Thanks!

Hi, what do you prefer about it? (Or is it just the exit prompt thing) ?

The exit thing is a big one, I could get used to the Android Emby app on the Android TV otherwise.
