Hardware acceleration on AMD?

Hi the documentation is a bit sparse. So I thought I simply ask here. If I take an AMD CPU with iGPU, will it be possible to have hardware acceleration or does emby still require an intel CPU for that?

It would, though with somewhat limited features compared with Intel and/or Nvidia GPUs (for example, no HW tone mapping with AMD GPUs currently).

So it would be the VA-API I guess?

Would I need to look out for certain specs on the processor?

I have mostly simple remuxes and I think mostly it's no encoding at home. So I rarely would need it. I know that for some cases certain subtitles can cause reencoding though.

Which processor? I used the igpu in my 7950x for a few months as a stop gap until I could source a rtx 3090 for running local language models. The Raphael you in the 7950x worked well enough, but I don't have any 4K HDR content that would require transcoding or tone mapping.

AMD has horrible quality and support when it comes to hardware transcoding. You'd be better off getting a cheap quadro, or Intel Arc A310/A380 for the job.

Hmm, I think as I mostly don't need it I will still go with AMD probably an 9600x.

For $30 you can get a P400 which will handle all your encoding needs.
