Stroudy 21 Posted July 31, 2025 Posted July 31, 2025 (edited) I also seem to have the same problem. Started maybe 2 days ago. Only seems to be certain TV episodes. Looks like it may be the AV1 codec that is my problem. Nothing has changed with the episodes, they were imported in 2024 and have been working fine until recently. I run Emby Server on Debian 12, stream on Chrome TV. Edited July 31, 2025 by Stroudy Found a trend.
Luke 42077 Posted August 3, 2025 Posted August 3, 2025 @Stroudy Hi there, let's look at an example. Please attach the information requested in how to report a media playback issue. Thanks!
Stroudy 21 Posted August 6, 2025 Author Posted August 6, 2025 (edited) Hello @Luke Sorry for the delay, here are some logs ranging from just before I started playing the problem content to around 30 seconds into playback: Paste2.org - Viewing Paste 6hUm6ZFf If it's useful, when the audio starts playing, I just get a single frame on the screen which remains there until you exit the media. Thank you. Edited August 6, 2025 by Stroudy
Stroudy 21 Posted September 9, 2025 Author Posted September 9, 2025 To add some more information to this, AV1 will work on the Emby for Android app, but only if you change the quality to anything else except for "Auto". However on the Emby app, changing the video quality away from auto will throw a "Too many errors" message.

You can do this in playback settings without having to touch the quality setting.
Stroudy 21 Posted October 19, 2025 Author Posted October 19, 2025 Hi Luke, Sorry for the delay, no I've had no success with software changes. As a workaround I've removed all AV1 media from my library and changed to x264/265 instead. Although today I replaced one of my Google Chromecast with Google TV, for a Google Streamer instead and the AV1 codec works fine on that. So sounds like something changed recently on the Google side of things that is causing AV1 issues on the older kit. Happy for you to disregard this issue. 1
