nodiaque 62 Posted September 3, 2025 Posted September 3, 2025 Yeah PC is what I'll use. Up to last month, I still had in mind that Dolby Vision and HDR10 wasn't possible to be played though a pc and send the signal to a TV. Was the case for a while (specially for MKV) but thing evolve and now, it can be played. I will have to update my GPU since my Quadro P4000 only have DP port and DP to HDMI cable doesn't give proper communication to the tv and thus, no DV support.

It's only 100Mbps, which I can't understand why that would do that with a GB connector is like 3 cents more. With a speed test I get 90Mbps wired, and 485Mbps wireless. I have tried both Wired and Wireless and experienced the same issues. I picked this MiniPc up on Black Friday for $140. The problem is the wife factor. If I'm home and set it up it's great, but the second I leave the house she tries to watch something and all hell breaks loose and I hear about it for MONTHS about what a waste of money everything was if she can't ever use it. Reading your thread -- I literally laughed out loud. Welcome to my world -- been married 37 years so I KNOW your situation / pain/ joy / etc
Ahole 17 Posted October 14, 2025 Posted October 14, 2025 So @Dizzy49- what did you settle on ? I have had an Nvidia Shield for years (but I think it is failing). I got a great deal on a mini PC Amazon Prime Days -- looking for best thing to use it for lol How are you controlling the Windows (via Remote)?
thezfunk 1 Posted October 15, 2025 Posted October 15, 2025 I got the Google TV Streamer for my 4K TV. Works fine. https://store.google.com/product/google_tv_streamer?pli=1&hl=en-US
nodiaque 62 Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 Problem with google tv streamer is that it doesn'T support many audio codec. While you might see it do get them, it actually convert them to pcm. There's no Dolby TrueHD nor DTS-HD or even DTS:X support for passthrough. It's actually the same as the Chromecast 4k and Onn Pro 4k.
all4dom 101 Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 My onn pro4k plays all audio & video formats
nodiaque 62 Posted October 18, 2025 Posted October 18, 2025 Not because it plays that's its pass-through, which is what I want. The onn 4k pro doesn't support Dolby truehd or dts:x just like any smart tv and Google tv. Yes it will play. Depending on the device, either emby will convert it before sending it or it will receive it the player will convert it before output. Google TV actively transcode to pcm all format it doesn't pass-through.. https://www.reddit.com/r/AndroidTV/s/tI8ANF6F6n
