PGSSUBS burning in and DTS-HD transcoding

Is it expected behavior for PGSSUBS to burn-in on Android mobile? I could have sworn last time I used Emby, PGSSUBs are able to direct play on the Android client.

Also I'm noticing that DTS-HD is not direct playing, but I also vaguely remember being able to direct play on Android. I have an S25+, Android 15, Emby Android 3.4.74, 4.7.1.12 server beta

The app can handle both of those without transcoding, so maybe it's the quality setting.

I verified its not due to quality setting. I have max quality selected and server reflects that the reason for transcoding is incompatible codec

I would check the playback settings in the app to make sure you're not forcing conversions on any formats.

I see "convert unsupported surround audio to DD" option is the reason for audio transcoding. Thanks for pointing out. 

Now for the subs issue... If you enable PGSSUB while direct streaming, emby will switch to a transcode and burn them in. If you enable them while direct playing, they play without burn in. Am I correct to assume this is a limitation of HLS protocol only being able to supply text/vtt subtitles? If so, is there any way for you guys to somehow work around this in the future?

No idea what you mean? We use those two terms interchangeably. They mean the same thing.

Right, you can't put PGS into HLS.
