Subtitles option becomes unavailable after metadata refresh

Normally I don't have any issues with Emby but in this case I am not sure what is going on.

The scenario is that I have ripped a DVD with subtitles embedded in each file using MakeMKV. I then rename the files using the convention "S0NE0N Title". The files play with subtitles in VLC, Potplayer etc. and even on my Hisense TV. If I then copy the file to the Emby server running on a Synology NAS I can see that the metadata has refreshed and the episode details are all present. But if I now play the file on my browser within Emby I lose the subtitle option in the CC menu item. Subtitles cannot be switched on. If I then rename the file so it uses a different naming convention like "0N 12 Title" the metadata disappears but the subtitle option is now available -> "English DVDSUB" and work. Subtitles are now recognised even on my LG TV which is what I wanted in the first place.

Why is this happening? I have arrived at a solution by changing the filename but it would be nice to have the metadata and subtitles with the correct file naming convention. I have other rips that have worked fine. Perhaps it's just these DVDs...

Hi, please try refreshing the metadata on it manually and see if that helps.

No refreshing the metadata doesn't work. Renaming the file to some non-conventional format and then refreshing the meta will work but you lose all the episode information. But the subtitle options re-appear. Changing it back reverses everything. I have two copies of the same file on my server now. One with metadata but without subtitles and another without metadata but with subtitles. And the subtitles work even with my LG TV.

@redwick00can you also provide an example of how your file structure looks like? Whichs folders are where, where the media- and subtitle files are and what they're called? That way we can try to reproduce this issue on a clean install.
