Question about updating from stable to beta

I really want to be able to read books and comics on my server, I tried adding a file for a comic as a test it but apparently the current stable version is having issues with that. I read on a forum that I can run two different versions of Emby in parallel on one machine, but that I need to change the ports on the new instance. On the primary emby server that I am currently running, I have it setup through a reverse proxy for remote access. Would I be able to run both instances of emby through the reverse proxy? Or would I have to only do one instance of emby if I wanted to be able to remotely access it? If I do end up having to convert my already running emby server into the beta version, would it save all my settings and reverse proxy configs or would I have to redo it all?

Any help/advice would be appreciated, thank you.

You can connect to both through the same reverse proxy, you'll just need another vhost/sub domain name for it.

Updating stable to beta has no impact on your reverse proxy settings. You just can't revert back to stable until the beta becomes the stable version.

Would they appear as two different servers? Would I have to change servers on the emby app in order to access the beta server where my books are being held or would it seem like one server thats holding it all?

Yes they would be 2 different servers, you would need to use the change server option to swap between them, but the new feature is only on web right now so you would just have another tab with the other server address.

I understand, in that case I will likely just alter my main instance to be in beta mode.  One final question I have is that if I delete the emby app on my laptop and install the beta, would I have to recreate all my folders, add all of my user's emby connect accounts to their profile and other configuration info? Or would there be some way to save that information and have the beta installation automatically obtain it?

You can use the backup and restore plugin, but you don't need to uninstall the server if you're just going to upgrade it you can just install it over top like usual.

I was also thinking with respect to the reverse proxy that you can also use the same domain name just with a different port, so 443 could bring you to the stable instance, 444 could bring you to the beta instance.
