I hope a new playback mode similar to TikTok can be added.

I hope Emby can introduce a new video playback mode where videos in the same folder can be played with a TikTok-like vertical swipe, allowing users to switch between videos by swiping up or down.

It’s a playback mode like a short video mode, where you can swipe up or down to switch between videos.

Imagine having a bunch of old memes, vines, shorts and tiktoks on a media server and just randomly scrolling through those. Maybe even connect some kind of scraper to automagically download everything from social media

You might have misunderstood what I meant. I was talking about turning my existing media library into a new playback experience — something like scrolling through short videos, just like on TikTok — but using my own collection, and making it work on phones and tablets.

The short video playback mode is actually more suitable for phones and tablets. The current playback modes are more tailored for TVs, but they are too cumbersome to operate on mobile devices and tablets.

A swipe-to-switch setup would be a sweet quality-of-life upgrade, especially for quick-binge folders. I’ve played around with short-form stuff a lot, and after using Famoid to boost engagement on my TikTok clips, I got used to that fast scroll vibe, so having something similar in Emby would feel pretty natural. If the devs pick it up, it could make hopping through videos way smoother.

I would recommend to use the open-source tubearchivist for this purpose. It has already built-in support for shorts/vertical videos and scrapes metadata automatically.
