Are you still watching - Doesnt stop playback

I usually watch things on the server at night and end up falling asleep. When I wake up the show is still going. I have the "Are you still watching" option turned on, however it doesn't ever prompt me or stop the playback. Mostly I'm just trying to get the server from chugging all night because it's playing video. Is there something else I need to get it to stop after a certain amount of hours or episodes?

HI, did you have three hours of idle time with no user intervention?

Yes. More than that easily.

What device is it on?

I'm watching on a Chromecast TV, casting from iOS

OK currently this feature isn't implemented yet when casting to Chromecast. We can add this, but we'd have to do it on the device that you're casting from.

Sounds great.  Casting from an iPhone.

I'm surprised this isn't something that just kicks in from the server.

The server can't make a dialog appear on your phone.

By the way, what model Western Digital do you have your server installed on?

I don't want it to appear in my phone. I just want it to stop playing. Plex I beleieve does it on the screen playing the show.

I don't care how and what just so much as something happens that I don't have to shut off the server in the morning.

We normally do as well, but Chromecast doesn't have a menu system so that's why we can't put any buttons on there. I suppose we could put some text saying please go to your phone to continue playing.

I've just had an automatic shutdown of my server at 2am which isn't ideal but it's what I figured out.

I'm just curious how plex and other streaming services have this. It feels like it should just be on the server that after X episodes or films it says "Hey"

You're just on the couch watching TV, though? You're not even paying attention to the server at the time, right?

I'm not sure what this has to do with anything, especially a month after the last response

What I'm asking is how would it come from the server if you're watching on the TV?

Posted

I don't know. Plex does it. Disney plus does it.

I thought that gets pushed from the server somehow.

Does your Chromecast have a remote?

Posted

No. Everything I have runs from the phone. Tvs included

Right so then we can ask if you're still watching on the phone, right?

Posted

I don't care. As long as the server stops feeding info due to "inactivity".

Somehow the "warning" always shows on screen for everyone else which I think is being overlooked here.

Where are you used to seeing it?

Then where do you click the button?

It depends on the source. I'd suggest giving disney+ or any other streaming service, even plex a try.

It's going to be much more effective than going back and forth like this.
