Even tried moving it to the normal generic "movies" folder on the off chance that would make a difference, and it gives the same result as below. I really don't know what to say at this point. It simply doesn't seem to care about the folder or mkv name at all. Unfortunately, I can't reasonably guess what has caused this as I said, I have hardly touched the settings. It doesn't matter how many times IU rescan the library- The result is always the same. I open to any further suggestions of where I should look next... Did you make sure to run a library scan after moving the file?
brothom 177 Posted July 18, 2025 Posted July 18, 2025 @Happy2Play@LukeI finally managed to (sort of) reproduce OP's issue using the following structure: X:\Media\Movies\KIDS MOVIES\Redline.mkv X:\Media\Movies\KIDS MOVIES\The Day After Tomorrow\The Day After Tomorrow.mkv For some reason, Redline is transformed into a completely different movie called "When Kids Make Movies". But it gets even weirder. The external id's are also different: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt15437042 https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/828404 https://thetvdb.com/movies/curious-george-cape-ahoy Something fishy is up, but ONLY when the naming convention is not being used exactly. For whatever reason, placing Redline.mkv another Folder deeper fixes this issue: X:\Media\Movies\KIDS MOVIES\Redline\Redline.mkv (correct) Changing the folder name to "anime_movies" (E:\Media\Movies\anime_movies\Redline.mkv) causes even weirder items: https://thetvdb.com/movies/seven-pounds https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/635960-anime-related-1-home-movies https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0814314 @ServerNoob005do you have any other media items directly in your "anime_movies" folder without a folder?

I can see this as a issue as you are mixing flat and folder based media as by default Emby will the query the Folder Name not the file name. But none of the examples/screenshots show that structure. This is why complete folder content/structure is almost always requested.

In all other cases the media Redline appeared correctly and almost immediately with realtime file monitoring. I'm also out of ideas but I have a feeling this reproduction somehow has to do with this issue.
ServerNoob005 2 Posted July 18, 2025 Author Posted July 18, 2025 (edited) Good Morning Friends, I will be able to look into the issue this weekend and provide the requested logs. I am still watching this thread, it’s just been a tough week so I haven’t had anytime for more testing. Some quick answers though, since I feel the plot is being lost slowly. Either I am failing to explain, or what I am saying is being forgotten/missed, in the search for a solution. 1. @Luke as per the last paragraph of my message to you, I am, yes. I run a rescan of the files after any location change/name change/etc and then a metadata refresh just for good measure. Been running the rescan a few times in the hopes it will find it. I feel it necessary to restate as in my original post- I have a plex server for my family. I’ve been maintaining and growing it for about 2 years now. I know the basic principals of how library scans and metadata refresh/matches work, and following naming/folder conventions. I did read the emby guides on naming, and that’s why I am here asking, since It couldn’t find a blatant cause for this issue. 2. @brothomNot to deflate your enthusiasm but, that is not an accurate reproduction, unfortunately, and bluntly a complete miss =/ I think perhaps my screenshot may have confused you. All of my mkvs are within their own folder usually with a poster.png. There are no floating mkvs within the anime_movies folder. In the picture I posted last message, Redline the folder and Redline the mkv both have the id as you suggested in an earlier post. You are inside the folder in the image. So currently the structure in the photo is: mnt --home-media ----anime_movies ------Redline (2009) {tmdbId-71883} --------Redline (2009){tmdbId-71883}..mkv All movies are in their own seperate folders. As I have said previously, I follow Plex’s structure, which is borderline identical to Emby’s: Library -> Movie Folder -> Movie.mkv (+ movie poster.png/jpg if I added it) I have yet to test without the extra period you pointed out in the mkv name, so I will have to see if that makes a difference, but I’m not optimistic, sadly. No other movies in the anime_movies library fail accept for Maquia, Redline, and Patema, so it’s a bit hard to believe it’s a structure issue. With all that said, I will see about removing the extra period and the providing logs tomorrow. Then I sincerely hope we can put this issue to bed. Edited July 18, 2025 by ServerNoob005
ServerNoob005 2 Posted July 20, 2025 Author Posted July 20, 2025 Good Afternoon Friends: @LukeWith regard to your specific question. Indeed, it is. It was created on 7/12/25 with Premiere added a few hours afterword. As promised here is some of what I see in the log. I decided to not focus on Redline since plenty of others fail. I recreated the library, and this is the log post scan/creation. ServerNoob005 2 Posted July 20, 2025 Author Posted July 20, 2025 (edited) @Happy2PlayFailed in this context means the movie appears in the folders section as an empty folder but not in the movies section. The same issue as Redline, minus the naming thing. It is not playable. Edited July 20, 2025 by ServerNoob005
ServerNoob005 2 Posted July 20, 2025 Author Posted July 20, 2025 (edited) Afternoon- I suppose to back things up/rest the discussion so-to-speak; here is a context reminder of what this forum post is about. Films are missing and no one at this point in time has been able to tell me why. The log above is what I found regard some of the films in question during the library creation. As per old posts, the folder structure and naming convention is not atypical (library, move folders, mkvs inside), settings are default to my knowledge. They just do not show up in Emby for whatever reason. Edited July 20, 2025 by ServerNoob005
pwhodges 2012 Posted July 20, 2025 Posted July 20, 2025 Just to be clear, if you click on Redline in the folder view, do you get to see the movie file (may require two clicks, depending on a setting) or not? Have you checked the access rights on the individual files concerned? Paul 1
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 20, 2025 Posted July 20, 2025 Yes when you enter the item via folder view what does it show for metadata as it would suggest misidentification/merged into something else looking at item count on Movies vs folders.
ServerNoob005 2 Posted July 20, 2025 Author Posted July 20, 2025 @pwhodges@Happy2Play With regard to folder contents, I need to check all of the ones affected, but as per an old message I sent, the folder for Redline (and I believe Maquia I also checked) is empty inside emby. It’s as if the mkv doesn’t exist at all. I expect the others to be the same situation, but I need to verify, which I can in a bit. I can poke around to see if there is any data on the folders. I guess I can also check the file rights- try anything at this point, but I have my doubts. The server runs on a nuc linked up to a nas and that nuc Linux user has full access to these folders- read and write. Likewise these all work in plex and perhaps the primary reason I doubt: I scanned Maquia and a Silent Voice from my own Blu-ray’s via makemkv same as the ghibli films you see in the images. I have not touched their rights. Let me see what I find, if anything. Huh…what a mess.
ServerNoob005 2 Posted July 20, 2025 Author Posted July 20, 2025 @pwhodgesEmpty as expected. Seems to grab the fanart and apply it as the background and the poster file is used properly as per my previous image. I don't see anything wrong with the rights, it's the same on the working mkvs. I will suppose I will be honest as well, friends. I am slowly but surely running "out of gas" on this issue. Between this and running into issues with ASS subtitles on Roku in emby (something I did bring up in another thread but didn't get around to answering with logs etc, since I was hoping to focus on one issue at a time), I don't think my hopes of a complete system migration are realistically going to occur, and I am weary of tinkering on something that should be simple, when I have an already working solution (albiet one I am growing not to like). I am willing to hear more suggestions, but if it cannot be solved by next weekend and seemingly no one can recreate my issue, then I think it's going to be time to give it a rest and revisit emby at a later date. Works great for my photos, great for my comics, great for standard movies, but anime just seems to not be its cup of tea- at least for me.

Judging by this screenshot the entry for Maquia isn't a media entry, but a media collection (folder). What does the Metadata Manager say when you look up Maquia under the folders segment? When hovering over this item: Click the three dots and then "edit metadata". The path is exactly the same as where the file should be right (home-media/anime_movies/Maquia When the Promised Flower Blooms (2018)) WITHOUT the filename? Other media entries are immediately "attached" to their media file but this folder seems to be treated separately, like it's a separate group / collection.
Solution Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 21, 2025 Solution Posted July 21, 2025 Only other guess would be a defective database or maybe an issue with parental controls. As the log snippets suggest it is imported but don't see the sqlitemids as the full log is not present. If you created a new user with full access in Emby do you see the same results? 1
ServerNoob005 2 Posted July 21, 2025 Author Posted July 21, 2025 (edited) @Happy2Play Oh my god- I can’t friggin believe it. Gold star for you mate. During test I forgot that NC-17 got applied early on. It never clicked with me until you mentioned it, and I remember Redline had a random topless scene. More surprised on the other ones falling into that category and that nothing in my Movies file got fagged— the connection would have been obvious. So while the outcome was me being stupid, which I originally thought it was, I am relieved the issue is over, and I’m very sorry for the trouble. I will try to do better next time smh, and I will you this as an important lesson for future troubleshooting. Check users rights probably should have been the very first check, then logs, then fresh user. Edited July 21, 2025 by ServerNoob005 1

Yah with a quick look it would appear NR has a higher index then NC-17 Table might be a little dated as it was from a old DM. LoadRatings("us", new[] { new ParentalRating("TV-Y", 1), new ParentalRating("APPROVED", 1), new ParentalRating("G", 1), new ParentalRating("E", 1), new ParentalRating("EC", 1), new ParentalRating("TV-G", 1), new ParentalRating("TV-Y7", 3), new ParentalRating("TV-Y7-FV", 4), new ParentalRating("PG", 5), new ParentalRating("TV-PG", 5), new ParentalRating("PG-13", 7), new ParentalRating("T", 7), new ParentalRating("TV-14", 8), new ParentalRating("R", 9), new ParentalRating("M", 9), new ParentalRating("TV-MA", 9), new ParentalRating("NC-17", 10), new ParentalRating("AO", 15), new ParentalRating("RP", 15), new ParentalRating("UR", 15), new ParentalRating("NR", 15), new ParentalRating("X", 15), new ParentalRating("XXX", 15) }); But this is a area that gets overlooked/forgot when settings get applied to regular users.
Luke 42078 Posted July 21, 2025 Posted July 21, 2025 I know NR stands for not rated, but in the US it has sometimes had the connotation of being associated with more adult movies. I think that's why it has the number that it has. @ebrshould we revise this and just treat it as a null rating?
