Feedbacks on Apple Silicon Server ?

Hi,

I've been running Emby for few years on a Lenovo m910q Tiny attached to a QNAP with 32To for storage. Never had much performance issue until I started downloading anything in HEVC 10-bits. The i5 6500-T can't transcode with hardware so the process ffmpeg is killing it.

I'm considering buying a Mac Mini m4 basic configuration (16go ram & SSD 256). I would like to have some feedbacks on Emby server on Apple Silicon, is hardware acceleration 100% operational ? Is mounting a network attached drive stable ?

I've seen some posts fews years ago saying there is work in progress to manage the hardware on apple Silicon but haven't seen much update since then.

Thanks

I just bought a Mac mini M4 base model, and connected an external platter hard drive via usb hub connected to a back thunderbolt port.
I didn't realize the Emby Server version was beta for Apple Silicon chips.
My prior setup was an older i3 that was working fine however with the M4 I did some stress testing and was able to do six 4k Streams all at once on different clients and they all looked great and had no issues except for one issue, which happened to be on our main TV we actually watch most content on, a Sony 65" 4K tv running Android OS.

The stream would have issues on the Sony 65" 4K tv regardless if it was the only client connected streaming at the time or five others, same behavior.
Basically what occurs is there are some slight video stuttering here and there, I notice it because I'm looking for it, my wife or kids maybe maybe not, however as soon as you point it out to someone they will also begin to notice it, AND THEN about 15-20 minutes into the movie it will stop on a Frame, EMby Server still thinks its serving up the content but the TV isn't doing anything new, and about a minute or three it may continue with another frame, and that behavior will continue unless you stop the stream. Basically becomes unwatchable. if you Resume the stream it works again, for about 15-20 or so minutes and then does the same thing again. Definitely not winning any WAF points with that.

So the issue has to be either on the Emby Server side of things using Direct Play to Android OS or something with the Android OS app on the Sony TV. However I will say, my 10+ old PC that was our Emby Server prior to the M4 handled the 4K streams on the exact same TV just fine, no issues. Which to me rules out the TV App and points to the Apple Silicon Emby Server software as the issue.

I don’t think it’s supports the silicon gpu natively in any capacity. Least that’s my understanding. I ended up moving to J-fin for this reason but keep checking back and  just read that’s still the case but is in the horizon
