vdb86 4 Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 Hi! Right now we're presented 11 options when selecting Home screen sections. Can we please have a custom option added in which we can select specific libraries that will be shows for that home screen section? Example: Home screen section 1: Movies, TV Shows Home screen section 2: Cartoons, Anime This would be a per app setting, not a global one. That way we can even have better screen utilization on phones, as we won't be forced to horizontally scroll through the list of libraries while the rest of the screen below is empty. Thank you upfront.
visproduction 315 Posted July 8, 2025 Posted July 8, 2025 Vd, What are you asking to do? It's not clear. Movies and TV Shows appear in different library types. Do you want both libraries to be all mixed in one row? This is more a design function of collections or playlists. You can make any collection you like and turn the collections posters on for the home page. Users can click once and get into any collection with any mix that you like. The order of the collections can be controlled with metadata / sort title and then choose to present collection by title. What does per app vs. global mean? The home page design is primarily horizontal scrolling. Users can flip their phone or tablet to landscape and see more posters per row. The libraries all scroll downward. These two different formats means that the user can easily notice if they are on the home screen or in a library. If you make the home screen scroll only downward it could cause confusion. I think that was perhaps one reason to make the home page scroll left to right. I did not design it. This is a guess. It is more standard to have a home page scroll horizontal and libraries scroll vertically. I think you will find that on all social media sites. Changing this would be going against the expected design and I think it would be a bad idea, in my opinion.
vdb86 4 Posted July 8, 2025 Author Posted July 8, 2025 The current home screen design doesn't allow vertical scrolling or even wrap around effect due to how it was coded. This can be fixed, but my guess it's not a priority and might require that part to be completely rewritten as it was initially designed to be used as line widgets (or sections) and not as a thumbnail vertical scrolling list. My suggestion from the first post focuses on current functionality while adding another option, to choose which libraries will be shown on which line of the home screen. As I wrote above in the example, on the first line it would be 2 libraries, then on the second line another 2 libraries, etc. Per app means I could have my normal homescreen on TV with all libraries horizontally presented, while on my phone I could have them presented in 2 or 3 lines and have them all visible in portrait mode.

But won't that increase the amount of horizontal scrolling necessary since each row would contain twice as much content?

You can also rename the Libraries to reflect any name combination you like. Normally, Movies and TV shows are not grouped together. Something like Romance & Comedies, or Award Winning Films would be more expected. These can easily be combined as well in Collections.

On my android phone I can see only 2 and need to scroll horizontally to see others. My suggestion would allow users to do this: Library 1 Library 2 Library 3 Library 4 Library 5 Library 6 So all 6 would be visible on the homescreen without any need for scrolling.
