whovian56 2 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 I'm using Version 4.8.11.0. I'm just setting up Emby Library for the first time to connect with my Synology NAS. I have gone through all the help, that I can find, and completed the setting changes recommended. I still cannot get any library to scan. I have tried scanning my Video and Music folders on my NAS. I have even opened the specific ports on my firewall. Nothing I do seems to work. I need assistance in this set up.
Luke 42077 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 Hi there, please attach the Emby server log from when the problem occurred: How to Report a Problem Thanks!

Luke 42077 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 Hi, did you notice these? System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/volume1/Music' is denied. System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/volume1/Pictures' is denied. Have you taken a look at this?
Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 Would appear to be a permissions issue to me. Happy2Play 9780 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 @FrostBytesince user was able to add libraries the issue now is the actual folder permissions correct? 1

When adding a library server only needs access at the "shared folder" level. Which is what those instructions in the link were for. For playback you also need folder and file permissions at the system level to be correct. To make life easier I would not have all my libraries in the root of volume1 Instead create one shared folder under volume1 and have the libraries under that. example: /volume1/MyMedia/Movies /volume1/MyMedia/TV Shows /volume1/MyMedia/Music /volume1/MyMedia/Pictures In that example "MyMedia" is the only shared folder needed. It doesn't need to be that way, but if not then you're messing with permissions in several locations instead of just one.
whovian56 2 Posted July 7, 2025 Author Posted July 7, 2025 Thanks all. I changed the permission as indicated and scanning worked. When looking for that permission it wasn't obvious where it was located on the Synology. I took a while to find it. 1 1
