Help with Playback Issue

Recommended Posts

This is the first time I have had an issue with a file playing since I started using Emby. I'm just trying to trouble shoot it so I know what's going on if it ever happens again. It is a 4K - Remux HEVC 5.1 DTS Sound file, but I have many of these in my library and never have any issues.

If I play this file on my tablet using wifi, it plays fine - direct play at 95mbs

Setup - Hardwired Nvidia Shield Direct Play, Samsung 8k TV

In Emby, when I hit play, it loads to the play screen, but just stays black. I have all my settings at max for streaming, and if I go into setting and reduce down to 4k - 80mbs, it will play. Anything higher, it will stop playing. Speed isn't an issue because its hardwired on my Shield. It's weird, I tried like 10 other files that are that are about the same, without any issues. Even LOTR, and its about the highest bit rate file I have. I did get the movie to play once by waiting for about 2 minutes on a blank screen, but once I try to start agian, it just stays on a black screen.

If I load up Plex, the file direct plays without any issues. Any insight would be great.. I attached the logs

HI, can you try updating to the latest version of Emby for Android and see if that helps? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I just updated and rebooted my Shield, but that file does the same thing. It goes through the cinema intro, and looks like its going to play, but just goes to a black screen. It puts the Rated R in the top left corner, but just doesn't play.

OK we're looking into it. Workaround for now would be to disable cinema intros. Thanks.

Thanks. I turned the intros off, and it still doesn't play. Im thinking its something with the Nvidia Shield. I have two Onn 4k boxes in my bedrooms, and the movie plays fine. I have two Nvidia Shields, and tried it on both of them, and it just won't play. It's weird because the Nvidia will normally play anything.

Hi, can we please see a new log example? Thanks.

I attached the newest log. I tried playing it, and left it go on a black screen for about 2 minutes, and then backed out.

I've narrowed it down. It has to be something with processing DTS HD MA audio. I would think that if it couldn't process the audio, it would just transcode it, but for some reason with this file, it doesn't transcode.

I just got a new Zidoo Z9x for my theater. It plays the file fine, and I am using Emby, just with an external player instead of the one from Emby. If I try to play it on the Zidoo with the internal player, it does the same thing the Nvidia does. The Nvidia won't play it no matter what I try. It's even weirder because I tried my Jurassic Park movies, and they have the same DTS HD MA audio, but they play fine with the Nvidia and Zidoo.

When I play this movie on my Onn 4K box, it plays direct play, and if I play it in Plex, it will direct play

Emby On Onn Box

English DTS-HD MA 5.1 (Default)

Direct Play

On Plex

Audio

Direct Play (English - DCA 5.1)

I'm not sure what the problem is, I was just trying to figure it out.
