Talkworks 5 Posted July 2, 2025 Posted July 2, 2025 I have a lot of movie and TV episode files that are in different resolutions (eg. 1080p and 720p). They have typically been named, "movie name.m4v" and "movie name.mp4". Because I have a Mac, and have tended to use Mac applications, the file container for videos as been m4v. Locally our hardware supports mostly encoded x264 at 1080p with 6 channel audio. When I decided to put media files on a Qnap NAS, I found some remote users couldn't stream the 1080p files so made optimized copies at 720p. I came to Emby from Plex so some files are named and placed in "Plex Versions" folders but not enough to worry about. What I'd like to be able to automate is renaming the files to comply with Emby's naming convention for files of different resolutions. So, a file named Atlas.m4v would be renamed to Atlas - 1080p.m4v and a file named Atlas.mp4 would be renamed to Atlas - 720p.mp4. However I then need to put both files in the same folder (named "Atlas"). Does anyone know how Filebot might do this? Thanks
Luke 42077 Posted July 2, 2025 Posted July 2, 2025 Hi, @darkside40, @TMCsw and @Happy2Play may have some Filebot tips.
rednoah42 1 Posted July 2, 2025 Posted July 2, 2025 7 hours ago, Talkworks said: Does anyone know how Filebot might do this? How do I organize files for Plex? has a video tutorial to get you started. Since you're using Emby, you'll want to use {emby.id} as custom format instead of the {plex.id} format as shown in the video tutorial. Adding 720p / 1080p / etc is a matter of adding {vf} to your custom format. e.g. { emby.id % { ' - ' + vf } } That'll generate file paths like this: Movies/Avatar (2009) [tmdbid=19995]/Avatar (2009) - 1080p.mp4 1
