m7abrr 2 Posted June 30, 2025 Posted June 30, 2025 Hello This is a simple request but efficient in emby there’s no different names of subtitles regarding their format or location. all ( external subtitles- embedded subtitles-subtitles add through UI from opensubtitle) has the same name format for example: English (SRT) I know you can tell through “edit subtitle” button but it’s extra step not needed I wish that names be like: English (SRT) > For embedded English (SRT)(External) > for external sub English (SRT)(Opensubtitles) > For Opensubtitle Why it’s important? Because sometimes someone in my server add multiple subtitles through opensubtitle and all have same format and confusing I know I can disable this but I don’t want to, I hope you can just differentiate on the name itself rather than checking every time on edit subtitle option. 2

m7abrr 2 Posted June 30, 2025 Author Posted June 30, 2025 Open subtitles subs are identical to External subtitles why? because as I said someone would just spam download subtitles from opensubtitles and all have same format and most are unsync and confuse me and other users on server because they and I would think it’s externally added and should be synced so at least differentiate opensubtitle ones as it’s on Plex
m7abrr 2 Posted June 30, 2025 Author Posted June 30, 2025 Here it’s Easy to identify which one is which that’s my request
gnubrew 4 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 In this context, it would also be helpful to read and display the name tag of internal audio and subtitle tracks. This would also make it possible to distinguish normal subtitles from for example “commentary” subtitles. (Although there is also a separate tag for commentary tracks). 1

gnubrew 4 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 You're right for the web app. But I don't use it often just testet it because of your comment. I'm running emby on NVidia Shield (emby AndroidTV), where it does not show the track names. (Or is there a setting to activate it?) 1

Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares? Thanks.
gnubrew 4 Posted July 7, 2025 Posted July 7, 2025 Yes, I just tried it - it shows the names of all audio and subtitle tracks - fine! And what I also recognized immediately is that you can show person details without having the film stopped I didn't know, that there is another app to install. Thanks a lot!
brothom 177 Posted July 9, 2025 Posted July 9, 2025 +1. I would love to have an option to filter or maybe even exclude subtitles based on their source. Non-text / Image-based subtitles are pretty heavy and sometimes even force transcoding when the source file wouldn't require it otherwise. Users that aren't tech savvy also won't know the difference between "subrip" or "pgs" and will just click the language they need. I assume that having an option to block / force specific types of subs will lighten the load on many systems and probably also prevent confusion.

brothom 177 Posted July 9, 2025 Posted July 9, 2025 @ebryep noticed those threads as well! Combining all three would be the ideal world subtitle-wise if you ask me. 1
