eric.faes@gmail.com 2 Posted June 27, 2025 Posted June 27, 2025 Hello See this issue many times but never with sollution. I had Emby on a Docker in my Synology NAS. Removed it because I see that now there is Syno community version and no more need for Docker version. Also removed Docker. Install is not possible as I keep getting error port 8096 in use by another program. No other program is using this port Restarted my device many times. Any file on the NAS I can /need to adapt to get this port free again ? hardware: Synology DS923+ DSM 7.2.2-72806 Update 3 Greetings Eric
Luke 42077 Posted June 27, 2025 Posted June 27, 2025 Hi, are you sure the docker install was fully removed?
eric.faes@gmail.com 2 Posted June 27, 2025 Author Posted June 27, 2025 yes Uninstalled all images I had running then uninstalled Docker / Container manager Restarted my nas issue remains
Luke 42077 Posted June 27, 2025 Posted June 27, 2025 Do you have other software that might be using that port?
eric.faes@gmail.com 2 Posted July 2, 2025 Author Posted July 2, 2025 No I only had emby installed via Docker Removed all docker images and then removed docker/container manager when installing Emby for the Syno community ii keep getting port 8096 as blocked This is an issue Any idea where the port registration file is ?

It's in the manifest of the packages, so that means for both our Docker and Synology packages. Is it possible you have other software using the same port? Did you figure anything out?
eric.faes@gmail.com 2 Posted July 8, 2025 Author Posted July 8, 2025 No other packages using port 8096 ! Figured out that Emby blocked port 8096 when installed. When uninstalled the port is never released. So future installs keep failing. Only solution is complete factory reset of the nas. Not an options, so will look for another music player instead
Luke 42077 Posted July 17, 2025 Posted July 17, 2025 @eric.faes@gmail.comso with Docker all we do is list the ports that are needed and Docker takes care of the rest. It is responsible for deleting the port registrations, and it looks like people have this same issue on Synology with other software (not Emby). https://www.synoforum.com/threads/docker-local-port-conflicts-with-other-ports-used-by-other-services.10086/ Actually if you just google search there's a lot of hits about this.
Luke 42077 Posted July 17, 2025 Posted July 17, 2025 I did find this that might allow you to remove the port assignment manually: Does that help?
bexkevon 1 Posted August 2, 2025 Posted August 2, 2025 Hey Eric, Had the same issue before — even after uninstalling Docker, some leftover Emby process or config might still lock the port. Try checking with netstat or ss via SSH, then manually kill or remove anything still using 8096. Tutuapp
eric.faes@gmail.com 2 Posted October 27, 2025 Author Posted October 27, 2025 (edited) Sorry for the late response Lukes last awnser did the job Navigate to /usr/local/etc/services.d and delete the file for the application you are trying to re-install Edited October 27, 2025 by eric.faes@gmail.com 1
