DuzAwe 0 Posted June 20, 2025 Posted June 20, 2025 Aware I’m necroing an old thread but to add to this a year later I’ve had the same experience. playlist on shuffle shows the same 20ish episodes where the collection so far has been far more random and I haven’t seen the same episode yet in a number of days.
Luke 42077 Posted June 23, 2025 Posted June 23, 2025 @DuzAwe HI there, can you please provide a specific example? How to Report a Problem Thanks !
EmblemJD 21 Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 Same here, it has always been lackluster and I remember some dev even stating shuffle is "pseudo-random" in Emby. There are periods where it is "working" (albeit regularly crashing Emby on AppleTV as soon as you have skipped forward around 10 episodes) but Version 4.9.1.34 beta is really bad again. @LukeI have 3800 titles in a mixed movies library and when I press "shuffle" on it, it now consistently only plays titles that start with either 1,2,3 or 4...something is definitely broken. Why re-invent the wheel here and not just go RNG?

I have never seen the need or use for mixed libraries except for the recording library for Live TV. It just seems to excessively complicate matters without really gaining anything. But it should be noted that it is Emby that created the need for mixed libraries to solve the recording of live TV. But Emby's software is owned by Emby and so they can do whatever they want to.
EmblemJD 21 Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 Okay I need to be more precise, I did not even consider that a library type impacts shuffle but that's a different topic. I am actually using a "Home videos & photos" type library - still I do not get the "Why use that" when my fundamental issue is that Shuffle is not Shuffling. How is that even connected?
Arthessia 12 Posted September 24, 2025 Posted September 24, 2025 I agree, I have a show with lots of videos that are about 4 to 6 minutes long (more than 400 videos). When I play them using the shuffle button, there are two categories of videos: - the ones I see everyday - the ones I never see

Personally i prefer using Mixed Libraries for things like Anime, where some users absolutely do not want to get in contact with it and others love it so much. Because of that I can neatly pack all anime in a specific folder without having to worry about shows / movies. 15 hours ago, Neminem said: Why use mixed libraries ? Mixed Libraries support shuffling so that should work right? If it doesn't work or isn't implemented correctly shuffle support should either be removed or fixed in my opnion. One way or another, I don't use shuffling at all so don't know what the scale or scope of this issue is I can imagine that someone would like to shuffle any type of library.
