Stuck with blank menu and no "back" button

I switched a couple of weeks ago from the Emby for Android TV app to this one.  It has been pretty decent so far.

Today, and maybe I did something by accident, but the back button on my remote, instead of going to the previous screen, now opens the side panel with a menu.  Actually, I like that.

My problem is that I watched a show, wanted to exit while the credits are rolling, but the slide out menu is now completely blank... so I'm stuck in either pause, play, or let it go to the next episode.
