New Feature

I am not sure I can suggest much with any confidence as I dont really know what info the EPG providers have available. I was assuming there would be a rating or at least channel Genre  e.g Sports, Adult etc

I would suggest as a fall  back following the same general approach as categories in XMLTV e.g

image.png.fbfb2c23c3c57573f7272cc161e3cbfb.png

but applied to channel names e.g. ADULT, XXX etc

All this though is an enhancement and I understand these things dont happen overnight.

Existing logo bug

What I am most concerned with right now is cached channel logos. Let me give you a specific example to highlight my point

If I browse the EPG in Emby I see this

image.png.78e393143c6bc4499d0fe96404c27aa3.png

this is not arts and crafts channel it is an Adult channel and nowhere does it say otherwise because the only info being presented in EPG is the channel logo.

This is the whole issue, TV channels change constantly and as demonstrated we cant safely leave it to the users to notice this and manually fix logos, this needs to be automatic when the channel changes.

In simple terms, if the channel name changes remove the existing channel logos and let the existing processes add the new ones.

I will admit this took me far to long to realize the thread has been split, I thought it was an empty reply glitch.

Existing logo bug

Pondering this whole topic I absolutely think the first addressable issue is channel logos.

The logic seems solid that if a channel name changes a process to delete the now incorrect channel logo should kick in. Ideally this should be real time but even if it is a scheduled housekeeping task that would be a vast improvement. The net result of this deletion is a refreshed logo since Emby already does this when no logo exists.

As with all things I am sure there will be edge cases but I suggest that they be the ones that need work around rather than the core users.

New Feature - channel level category - parental tag mapping

I have not found a definitive source for channel level categories however working on the theory that one exists or that the community/users could create lists we could leverage the Emby tags feature:

Tag a channel

Block a tag

image.png.11e85762dbdeaa739bc2ac267a91ee36.png

Parental blocking based on tags would be the "minimum viable product" but the logic is elegant; simply apply tags manually or import from a list that maps channels to tags and then restrict based on tag

It occurs to me we could take this slightly further and assign an optional Parental rating to a tag. e.g. Assign R18 tag to an Adult or U to Cartoons

This this information Emby can follow its existing ratings system for users. Obviously if more than one tag exists the highest rating would be applied.

To look at this more I could do with finding programme listings for the sample channel `Smile TV` listed above but I dont see a way other than trial and error via the GUI trying all UK Freeview Emby EPG sources. Do you have a better way behind the scene to find the correct EPG source?

We can't do this until we have the ability to lock images. This is because the server doesn't track if the existing image was set automatically or manually by the user. Therefore without that knowledge, we can't assume that it's safe to just blow away the existing image.

Have you seen the new feature on the m3u tuner to add tags to channels? You can have a tag already added to each channel when the channel is first imported.
